I'm a new mom and am about to start some specialty training in medicine, so I'm always on the lookout for quick, tastey meals. I am by no means a good cook yet, but I'm getting more compliments lately, and my confidence is growing. I and my family love spicey foods with lots of flavors. I have a burning question, what is "curry powder"? Whenever it's in a dish I get confused, bc there are so many kinds! Am I missing something?
My favorite things to cook
Anything vegetarian, though I just made up a recipe for tandoori chicken that seems to be a hit. This may be relative in considering my past tandoori chicken disasters!!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every thanksgiving, my mom puts on a huge feast, though, she is vegetarian, she manages to make amazing treats for all. I think it's the love that goes into each dish...I know, how cheezy!
My cooking triumphs
Latest triumph is my tandoori chicken marinade.
My cooking tragedies
The first Indian dish I ever made was during college. I called my mom for the recipe for potato curry. I lost the paper I wrote it down on and was making it for my friends. I forgot the salt and kept adding more and more spices bc of the bland taste. When my when one friend said it needed salt, I felt so dumb. Once I added it, the dish so totally inedible, each potato piece was covered in masala...yuck
