About this Cook
I am a 65 year old Grandmother and Great Grandmother. I retired 4 years ago from the Emergency Room of our Local Hospital,Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington,Ohio, and my husband is now retired for one year. We both enjoy cooking and trying new things. I am also a Breast Cancer and Thanks to the Doctors and Staff at Foster J Boyd Cancer Center in Wilmington, a Surivior of 11 months and always looking for healthy recipes. I love to work in my small Greenhouse and grow some veggies outside, but as we live in a wooded area the deer who lived here before us like to take their choice of the veggies,so I harvest what they leave me.
My favorite things to cook
Chicken,Fish and Pork, dont each much red meat, love to try new Dessert recipes and husband loves cookies so am always looking for new cookie recipes, and would love to hear from other Breast Cancer Survivors on what they think ads to a healthy diet for us Survivors.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grandaughter in Fl loves the family recipe for Pickled Eggs,Hunky Soup,Cole Slaw and Crepes. My husband who doesn't like cooked cabbage loves my cabbage rolls, dont why but he does but wont each cabbage cooked any other way. I have been looking for years for a recipe for a rice cake that my mother use to make it was made in an angel food cake pan and served cold, seems like she beat egg whites and folded them into the batter but I cant remember how its made and haven't been able to find a recipe, anyone out there got one email it to me at rjklein@erinet.com
My cooking triumphs
Anything that turns out to be what we call A KEEPER!!!!!!!!!
My cooking tragedies
Cant remember any real tragedies but do remember the first time I saw black olives I thought they were rotten, that is what comes from growing up in the country and not having things like that we had mostly fresh from the garden produce when I was a kid and never saw black olives till I was in high school and they came on a pizza at a pizza party at school, but I learned to love them and eat them right out of the can now

Brown Sugar Meatloaf
I agree with many others that the glaze should be on the top. I also don't put my meatloaf in a bread pan,I take a cooling rack and cover it with foil and poke some holes in the foil and put the rack over a cookie sheet and the grease drains thru the holes.

Garlic Dill New Potatoes
Totally Awesome, the only thing I did different was to use a steaming bag to cook the potatoes in and added the rest of the ingredients after the potatoes were done,no pan to clean just throw away the bag.

Bacon Roll-Ups
SO SO SO GOOD,I added a bit of fresh chives to the cream cheese and it was wonderful just a little extra flavor. And I agree with others to cook the bacon part way first.
