Starfruit Chips

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
If you have a food dehydrator, this is a no brainer. However, I don't have the luxury of owning one, and using the oven can be tricky. My oven is quite old, so it took much longer to dry them out. The end result is worth it though.

Don't let the amount of peppers scare you; play around with them to find your perfect level of spice tolerance. :)

Tapenade Salad

A very creamy pasta salad. It can be eaten either cold or warm. I prefer it a bit on the chilled side.

Pasta Pascal

Great basic recipe. I used a bit more garlic and onion, and I eyeballed the seasonings. I topped everything off with a nice Italian shredded cheese blend. Tasty, quick, and economical, thank you.

BLTC Cavatini

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Oh my. I haven't given a negative review in a while, but this recipe needs improvement. It was very bland in my opinion; salt and pepper alone aren't enough. And I don't know, something about the slightly cooked lettuce really turned me off. I could only manage two bites. I wish this would have worked out for me; I apologize again for the low rating and review.

Kraut Balls

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
These were okay, but nothing exciting. I made the recipe as written, so maybe it was my taste buds that were off tonight. I made about 20 medium sized balls but only ate 3 before I put the leftovers away. I'd probably try this again sometime, though. Thanks.

Olive Salad for Muffalettas

Delicious! I made this as written, but used fresh minced garlic instead (about 2 cloves worth) and omitted the celery seed because I didn't have any.

German Style Kielbasa

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
This is a great base recipe. I'm not a huge fan of apples, so I only used one (even after I halved the recipe, as it was only me eating this). The brown sugar is a great way to sweeten up the kraut, and adds a great flavor to the dish. I'd make this again because it's extremely simple and fast. Thanks!

Key West Penne

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
This was really delicious! I had to make a few adjustments; Rotini instead of Penne, and I omitted the shrimp because I don't care for it. My parents LOVED it and told me "it's a keeper!" I agree, thank you for the great recipe!

Grilled Pizza Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
I stumbled upon this recipe while looking for a way to use up some leftover pizza sauce. I used two mini orange and yellow bell peppers and a deli roll since it's what I had on hand. This is great for kids, I'll agree with that. For me, however, it definitely needs some additional spices. Maybe a pinch of oregano, Italian seasoning, or red peppers flakes would be a nice addition. This is a good base recipe, though. Thanks.

Bob's Stuffed Banana Peppers

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
I enjoy my peppers with rice in them, but this was a nice change. I used a combination of cubanelle (mild) and hungarian wax peppers (hot) because my store doesn't sell banana peppers. I also just used the hot sausage, as other's have said how there is too much meat to begin with. I cooked these on the stove top since my oven is on the fritz; simmering (covered) on medium-low for about 40 minutes. To pipe the filling in the peppers, I put the mixture in a quart sized zip-loc bag, and cut off a corner to squeeze it out. I think I'll stick to my step-mother's recipe, but this was a great change up to a tried-and-true favorite, thanks.

Spicy Cilantro Dressing

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
I was hoping this would turn out similar to Trader Joe's Cilantro Dressing (I can't get enough of it!) and it came close. I used two serrano peppers with seeds (I love spicy food) but I could still taste a lot of Worcestershire. I think next time I'd decrease that amount.

Spicy Chicken and Cilantro Wontons

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
These were good. Like any wonton recipe (and I've made a few now), it is very time consuming (unless you have some little helpers, but I never do). I had to eat them plain because I have absolutely no dipping sauces on hand, but they were still good. I made a few changes to this as well. I omitted the lemon grass and sesame oil (I had none), used two serrano peppers in place of 1 red chile, and used dried ginger instead of fresh. Thanks for the recipe.

Scallop and Chorizo Pasta

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
This was fabulous! I couldn't give it 5 stars (because I changed a few things) but it is certainly worth 5. I do have to agree that there isn't enough sauce for the amount of pasta. I would definitely double the amount. That being said, I chopped the peppers to making it more bite sized, and omitted the clam juice (didn't have any). This is one of my new favorite meals, thanks so much George!

Colombian Aji

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
I don't know what happened, but I didn't care for this. The spice was perfect (subbed 5 serranos for 10 jalapenos, since I had serranos on hand). I think the vinegar is what turns me off from the recipe, even though there isn't much of it. I think next time I'd decrease the amount of vinegar, but that's my own personal preference, not the recipe's fault.

Muffaletta Pizza

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2009
Oh. My. Word. This pizza is absolutely heavenly! I followed the recipe to a "T", except I had to use dried parsley and basil because that's what I had on hand. I omitted the prosciutto because my store only had the prepackaged slices (for almost 7 bucks), and I don't care for the taste, anyway. I was able to get two personal sized pizzas from the servings suggested, and it was perfect. I'm having the second one for lunch today. Well worth the prep time because the end result is delicious! Thanks so much SGRINAVI, I'll be making this again.

Chicken Cilantro

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2009
Wow, this was SO good! I used a lot more garlic and cilantro because I'm a huge fan of both. I omitted the salt and pepper at the end, and instead stirred in about a teaspoon of chili paste the last five minutes of cooking. I also omitted the hominy, as I didn't have any on hand. I wasn't quite sure if this was supposed to be a soup, or a dry rice-and-chicken combo. Mine was somewhere in the middle, but I thought it was great. With the additions I made, there was a perfect blend of spice and flavor. Hands down, I'll be making this again, thank you so much Ds R!

Bow Ties with Veggies

Not too special, but it was a great way to use up a zuke I had in the fridge. I also added some chopped garlic. This recipe isn't bad to use as a starting point for great additions. Thanks.
