I doubled this recipe except the basil. Next time I won't quite double the pepper and let everyone add pepper if they'd like. I also didn't use the hot pepper sauce b/c I didn't have any on hand. It was a very good, hearty soup. I did as another suggested & cut up my potatoes & cooked them in the chicken broth while cooking my bacon, etc. I also used all of my bacon drippings. Very good & will make again!

This was very good. I was out of half & half so I used 1 1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream & 1/2 cup of milk. It was delicious & the whole family loved it! I also used a little more bacon and not quite a whole onion. It was perfect!
