About this Cook
I'm a wife, mother, and grandmother who loves to cook down-home Southern style. I've been married for 37 years and when I got married, I could only cook two things: meat loaf and chocolate cake from a mix. My husband even had to show me how to make tea. What a difference a few decades make! I am not crazy about everyday cooking; I tend to get in a rut, which is why I joined allrecipes.com. But special occasions bring out my creative side. My other hobbies are reading, writing, spending time with my grandkids, and spending at least one hour every day talking to my husband - just the two of us.
My favorite things to cook
On an average day, I like to cook quick and easy. I'm a great collector of fast, easy recipes. For special occasions, I am into dishes that look nice and taste great. My favorite is making really pretty desserts. I also like to make attractive and tasty appetizers. But what my family likes best are the old fashioned Sunday dinners (in the South, when we say dinner, we mean the mid-day meal) that I make every week for all my children and grandchildren.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The Sunday dinners are everyone's favorite. I also have several special dishes I make every year on specific holidays.
My cooking triumphs
I prepared all the food for my son's rehearsal dinner. But my greatest cooking accomplishment was cooking enough meals to raise two kids - and they actually think I'm a pretty good cook.
My cooking tragedies
I never learned to make homemade biscuits that you roll out in your hand like my mother and grandmother did. And I can't fry a decent chicken.

Slow Cooker Casserole
Perfect for a busy day meal. I used canned chicken and added about half a pound of frozen broccoli (tastes good and adds color). Used only two of the three noodle seasoning packets. Added a cup of milk because it was a bit too thick. Because I used the canned chicken, I only cooked it 3 - 4 hours on low. Added noodles during last half hour. My three grandkids ate it up, and so did my husband. A keeper for busy days!

Slow Cooker Chicken Dressing
This is a great recipe, and you can cook it either in the slow cooker or the oven. I bake the eggs in my cornbread, then add 2 coarsely chopped boiled eggs to the dressing. Freezes well. Be sure to spray the crock with Pam, though - it you're not around to stir occasionally, it tends to stick. Definitely 5 stars, especially if you're a Southerner.

Candied Yams
Easy, quick, tasty. I didn't change a thing. Made them for my mom and she love them...and she's tough to please.
