Me and my girl
About this Cook
I work at a doggy gaycare. I have two kids - who are of course the best in the world!
My favorite things to cook
Whole foods. Health issues have forced me to learn and love. Simple carbs are a problem so we have to make most things from scratch.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Keep it simple - processed is a no no. We are from an Anglo Saxon background and are getting in touch with out roots. Great Britain lost a lot of it culinary traditions in the depression and world wars - which is a shame.
My cooking triumphs
Getting my kids to eat whole grains...and thank me for it! Finally figuring out how to make our own bread (thanks to a kitchenaid mixer - and my husband!)
My cooking tragedies
Whenever my mother visits and I try to impress her, everything goes to peices!

Curried Hummus
I'm sorry to say I added a couple of tablespoons of tostitos nacho cheese dip - but just to appease the kids. Otherwise the curry was a nice touch when you don't have tahini in the house. I also made the water and curry changes suggested elsewhere in these reviews.

Easy Vegan Whole Grain Pancakes
The answer to the question: "What happens when you just announced 'pancakes' to your kids - and then you find NO EGGS!"? I used this as a springboard. 1 Cup whole wheat flour 1/8 Cup cornmeal nutmeg instead of cinnamon apple juice in stead of water 2 tsp Baking Powder for extra fluff! I threw some frozen strawberries into a pan with a splash of pure maple syrup for topping. Kids had them with just the syrup and loved them.

Unbelievable Fish Batter
Reduced the baking powder too! Wonderful! As a brit in north america I'm always looking for a good fish n chip batter - this was the best we've had! We deep fried thin fillets of sole. looking forward to experimenting with other foods.
