About this Cook
I'm a twenty-something college student who is only just getting started on home cooking. I learned a few simple recipes from my mom before leaving home, but most of what I've learned to cook has been from this website. This is my absolute favorite place to go for new recipes, and I tell all my friends about it!
My favorite things to cook
I love one-dish meals like casseroles and stir-fries. I also like baking things like cookies and quick breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad is the real chef in the family, and he makes the BEST deep-dish pizza in the world. He also makes a killer seafood quiche, the recipe for which I only recently wrestled away from him. Our silly family tradition is that every time he makes one of his famous dishes to say, "This is the BEST ____ ever!"
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made my dad's seafood quiche I thought it wasn't as good as his, but my friends absolutely begged me for the recipe!
My cooking tragedies
Every year I make a pumpkin pie as my contribution to the family Thanksgiving and Christmas parties. I've had two great mishaps having to do with mislabeled spices - one year it was adding pepper rather than cinnamon (salvaged by scooping it off the top of the mix before blending), and another year it was adding jerky salt in place of brown sugar (totally unsalvagable - by the time I realized what was going on, my pie tasted like nothing but salt!).

Easy Lasagna II
This was excellent; the only change I made was to sub ricotta cheese for the cottage cheese. The meat-to-cheese-to-noodle ratios suited our tastes perfectly. The only changes I will make next time will be to added about a tsp of garlic powder and a tsp of red pepper flakes for a little zing.

Artichoke Chicken
My boyfriend made this the other night with 1/2 c. mayo, 1/4 c. sour cream and marinated artichokes. It was FANTASTIC. The only change we plan on making next time is to double the artichokes, since we feel that those are really the highlight of this dish.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese
This was a good recipe. I did not change it at all except to reduce the breadcrumbs to 1/4 cup and add some finely chopped onions.
