Frosted Cranberries

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
I'm going to come right out and say the ONLY reason I made these was because they are pretty, and I wanted to impress my co-workers with my Martha Stewart skillz at our holiday party :) I don't like cranberries and I don't like sour stuff. However, I had to taste just one...and guess what, I couldn't stop! These are like candy! With just the right mix of sweet and sour. And they are SO easy to make---I used other reviewer's suggestions as follows: 1 T corn syrup to 2 T water, toss cranberries in mixture. 1 c sugar in a Ziploc bag. I used a slotted spoon to drain berries well before placing in bag, then closing and tossing well in the sugar. Spread it all out on wax paper on a cookie sheet, and a few hours later I had beautiful, tasty frosted cranberries!!! And I do mean tasty. All of my coworkers raved and several asked for the recipe. Success!

V-Eight Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
This was really good! I used stew meat and browned it a little bit first. I also added a can of beef broth and a packet of onion soup mix on other reviewer's advice. I also threw in some pearl onions for more flavor. Very easy, very tasty!

Spiced Pumpkin Dip

This is tasty and got lots of compliments at my stepson's Thanksgiving Feast...several of his teachers asked for the recipe. I skipped the orange extract altogether on the advice of other reviewers.

Green Bean Fries

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Not exactly nutritious, but oh-so-delicious! I used Italian bread crumbs and made these in a mini fry daddy. For sauce I mixed ranch dressing with a few dashes of chipotle tabasco...it was perfect! Yummy-yum! We were hoping the green beans and the sauce would be as yummy as those served at the Twisted Root Burger restaurant here in Dallas...they were not exactly the same but close enough to make us very happy!

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Yummy! I followed other reviewers' advice and cut the sugar to 1/2 cup and it was plenty sweet! I also discovered halfway through making this that I didn't have enough milk (only 2 cups) so I topped the rest of the 3.5 cups with half-and-half. It was delicious!! We loved it after putting up our Christmas lights in the cold!

Garlic Parmesan Monkey Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
This was fabulous! I was in a time-crunch and had forgotten to thaw the frozen bread loaf, so I used two cans of refrigerated French Bread dough (the kind that is next to the cinnamon rolls and pre-made cookie dough at the store). Other than that, I followed the recipe to a tee and it was perfect!! We used large chunks of it as our "dinner roll" with our Thanksgiving meal and everyone said it was delicious!!!

Sugarless Pumpkin Pie II

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
My inlaws are both diabetic, and my dad requires gluten-free so I used a gluten-free pie shell from Whole Foods. I hated to use just a cup of pumpkin and waste the rest of the can, so following another reviewer's advice I used the whole can, 3/4 cup Splenda, 3 teaspoons p.p. spice, and an extra dash of the evaporated milk. I was a little worried that I totally bungled it when after 45 minutes it was still not "set"...but after an hour in the oven it set beautifully. Everyone raved and my husband said it tasted exactly like a regular pumpkin pie. He is quite the pumpkin pie lover (I don't care for it myself and didn't taste it) but he said it was fabulous, so I feel comfortable highly recommending it!

I had my own salad makings, but used the directions for the dressing in this recipe. It was delicious! Will definitely make again.

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2009
We *loved* this---even my picky stepkids said it was awesome! I subbed corn for the celery, and used a whole pound of ground beef. I ended up having to add more chicken broth as it was too thick. But it tasted delicious! This was perfect for a gray fall day!

Slow Cooker Dump and Go Cheesy Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
This definitely lived up to its title "Dump and Go"! I think it took me all of two minutes to get the crock pot ready in the morning, which was awesome. Of course the chicken was wonderfully tender, and we liked the flavor of the sauce AFTER we added cracked pepper and more garlic powder. I served this over rice. We'll be making this again!

Blueberry Drop Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2009
These are absolutely fabulous!!! So delicious, everyone has raved. I used fresh blueberries from our weekend blueberry-picking adventure. I accidentally forgot to use the lemon zest at all but I don't think it made any difference in the recipe. I also refrigerated my dough for 24 hours because I ran out of time right after I made it. The cookies were still wonderful, we will definitely be making them again. Thanks so much!

Basic Hummus

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2009
This was wonderful! If I had known making my own hummus was this easy I'd have been doing it a long time ago! I skipped the sesame seeds but followed everything else to a tee. I used this for the Hummus Casserole recipe off this site---Yummmmmy! Thanks so much!

Hummus Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2009
This was WONDERFUL! I made the hummus myself using the Basic Hummus recipe off of this site. FYI if you're making your own hummus, two cans of chickpeas worked beautifully for me--one can for the bottom layer and another for the middle. This was truly delicious, we will definitely be making again!

Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
I was really disappointed in this recipe as it looks so yummy. I followed the directions exactly. After an hour and 45 minutes in the oven it was still not done in the middle. I have had no problems with my oven temperature with other recipes. The outer edges that were done, were much two sweet, it kind of made my teeth ache. I guess I should have decreased the sugar like other reviewers suggested. I don't think I'll trying this recipe again, my fresh picked blueberries are too precious!

Herbed New Potatoes

Reviewed: May 11, 2009
This is a great recipe! Fast, easy, and delicious! I like to switch it up with different fresh herbs from my garden--we've enjoyed this very much with rosemary, dill, oregano, and sometimes a combo of all three! Yuuummmy!

Creamy Goat Cheese and Honey

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2009
Mmmmm! My husband and I are huuuge goat cheese lovers, and this was absolutely delicious! We don't like pecans but I used the basic idea and used our favorite pine nuts instead, finely ground in the food processor. Wow! We greatly enjoyed these and will definitely be making them again! Thanks so much for the recipe!

Ground Beef Quiche

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2009
Wow! I thought this was only going to be so-so and boy was I surprised! My husband and I both LOVED it! Followed the recipe exactly except I didn't have any oregano so I subbed "italian seasonings". I can't stand mayo and thought it would ruin the dish for me but it definitely did not---didn't taste "mayo-y" at all! Easy and tasty means it's a keeper for us for sure!

Neat Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
I usually faithfully follow a different sloppy joe recipe that is my stepkids' absolute favorite. Tonight in a pinch I didn't have the ingredients for the other recipe on hand, but did have the ingredients for this, so we gave it a try. They loved it even more than the other recipe, which has been their tried-and-true favorite for a long time! They all said they like this one much better, although I found it to be a tad too much on the sweet side. Skipped the celery but otherwise followed to a tee. Next time I will decrease the brown sugar by a touch, but we will definitely be using this one from now on! Thanks for the great recipe!

Quick Goat Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
Well, it was certainly quick and very easy--the instructions deserve 5 stars for that--but we were very disappointed with the flavor. We bought fresh goat's milk from a local farm to try this with and the end result was an easy-to-make cheese that had good texture but absolutely no flavor whatsoever. We are big lovers of the goat cheese that you buy at the store, I'm not sure how they get that flavored the way it is but this was nothing like it. Still the recipe is definitely quick and simple, maybe someday we'll try again and add spices or something.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2009
Yum! My stepkids love this warm with melted butter. I followed other reviewers' suggestions to increase the salt by 1/2 a teaspoon, and I used half whole wheat flour and half bread flour. And, I always follow my bread machine manufacturer's directions--liquids first. But even with these modifications to the recipe we love it!
