Me and Mikey!
About this Cook
I am a 3rd year law student living in Boston with my boyfriend and 8 year old bratty cocker spaniel. I love living in the city, going out, wine, lazy Sundays, trying new places/restaurants, live music, gardening (although its limited to a fire escape and I usually kill everything anyway), reading anything not law related, and I LOVE to eat and cook but have recently tried to balance that love with a more sustainable and healthy vegetarian/vegan diet- which I enjoy, but sometimes find challenging. Normally, I would have listed cheese as one of my loves- but no more :( I still try to adapt old favorites in a vegan way- however meatless sloppy joes did not go over to well with the BF whose favorite meal is shepherds pie. My bf teases me because I take cookbooks to bed to read :) That was when I got Mastering the Art of French cooking...I had a lot to learn!
My favorite things to cook
I love sauces! I also love seasonal cooking and making way too many appetizers for parties/gamedays. I am definitely NOT a baker- I think it requires too much patience and precision- not really my thing.
My favorite family cooking traditions
With an Irish/Italian background- food and drink has been the central piece of any celebration, who am I kidding, its the central piece of any given day really. My favorite tradition was making pizzelles and biscottis with my grandmother.
My cooking triumphs
When I received my copy of Julia Child's cook book, I studied it for days and then tried my hand at Duck L'Orange- with a homemade stock and all- it was a little sketchy but pretty good. A second triumph would be when I successfully pulled off a baked cod with beur blanc sauce, rissotto, and asparagus for my BF's parents- first time having them over and they came over an hour and a half early!!
My cooking tragedies
Baking anything...I prefer to buy desserts!

Crispy Orange Beef
I thought this was very good- I thought it was pretty authentic tasting and the sauce was delicious. I highly recommend doubling the sauce.

Simple BBQ Ribs
This recipe was great. Easy and delicious- truly No Fail. The only change I made is baking the ribs in a sauce of equal parts BBQ sauce and beeth broth and basting the ribs 30 min before they were done. Thanks Lloyd!
