I'm a mother of a two-year-old girl. Being at home more has inspired me to cook.
My favorite things to cook
Pies, cookies, treats, yum! I'm always looking for healthy alternatives and I usually add wheat germ to my banana bread, but it always tastes delicious! I love making healthy, tasty meals for my family. I like to make one-dish meals, but I love to make fancy desserts for dinner parties.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Macaroni and cheese from scratch! My Dad was a "stone soup" man; he could turn an empty cupboard or fridge into a delicious stew. He taught me well.
My cooking triumphs
Poached pears with gorgonzola for my friend who's developed allergies to almost everything! It was wonderful to watch her enjoy it carefree. I made a risotto with butternut squash, mushrooms and spinach and my daughter couldn't get enough of it. I loaded it with veggies and she loved it! I made an awesome enchilada without a recipe using a smoked turkey thigh I found at a shop on Granville Island. My husband still talks about it.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make soup and added canned vegetables. Yuck! What was I thinking?!
