As made, with shortening the icing would taste pretty commercial and bland and would be very unhealthy. Also I use much less sugar than written...and I love sweet. I do appreciate learning that shortening helps with decorative icing but I use 3/4 butter to 1/4 shortening. The taste is really good, the icing holds its form well for decorating and with the added shortening it keeps me from dipping my fingers in for samples. Thanks!
