Day in the life of a cook
About this Cook
As with most cooks, my passion in the kitchen came from watching my grandmother and mother throw down. These two ladies in my life could go to a restaurant, taste the ingredients and go home and make it just like the restaurant version if not better. When my little girl arrives I hope to be able to pass on that same passion to her so that she too can continue the tradition of filling the bellies of special people in her life with love.
My favorite things to cook
I love to dibble and dabble in different cultures; everything from German to Mediterranean. I'm what you call a food opportunist, if it can be eaten, I'll give it a try.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Since my family is spread throughout the US we really don't have a cooking tradition but when we get together its a sight to behold, as all the women gather in the kitchen to share stories and love of food. When I start my family I hope to be able to have big family meals where we catch-up and just enjoy each others company on Sunday (leaving the stresses of life behind to be thought of the next day).
My cooking triumphs
Getting complimented by my husband and hearing him tell me not to tell his mom or grandmother that my cooking now (after many trial and error) is better than theirs or just as equal. So I look forward to those compliments and seeing a smile on his face.
My cooking tragedies
Making Apple Pie from scratch...I cannot get the perfect blend of sweetness to the tart apples without having a runny mess.

Honey Butter
My family loved this recipe...I used a stick of salted butter and just eyeballed the honey until it became the right amt of sweetness that we liked. Place back in fridge and it was marvelous this morning on some hot biscuits.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles
These are so delicious and moist I followed the advise of some of the viewers by not cooking them too long (around 6-8 minutes or less). I also found that 400 was too high and was cooking the bottom before the center so I reduced to 350 and it was perfect. My dough was a little wet not like pie dough were it was firm but I was able to work with it (not forming perfect ball but close and the cookies still came out perfectly round).

No Fail Pound Cake
This is indeed a delicious CAKE but not what Southerns would call a Pound Cake. The only adjustment I made was add a touch bit more of lemon extract and then I followed it with a lemon glaze once the cake was cooled (2 TBSP of melted butter, about a cup and half of powdered sugar, dash of lemon extract, and 3 good squirts of concentrate lemon juice; mix and pour/drizzle over cooled cake).
