My family and I are trying to eat healthier meals, with more low-glycemic vegetables, good fats and proteins, and whole grains in the right ratios. My doctor told me that more than half of the stress we experience comes from our adrenal gland reacting to the spikes and dips in blood sugar from the sugary, starchy, and processed foods we eat. With stress being such a health risk, that's a scary thought!
My favorite things to cook
As a dessert devotee, I am on a quest for healthy baked goods my family can eat without totally stressing our bodies out. I adapt recipes, substituting whole grain wheat and spelt flours for enriched white flour, and unprocessed sugars, xylitol (all-natural veggie-based sweetener) or blue agave juice for regular sugars. It's not as good as eliminating them completely, of course, but it's a whole lot better than a Twinkie!! And frankly, it generally tastes better, too.
By the way, does anybody know of a chocolate chip that is sweetened with a low-glycemic sweetener, and is NOT vegan? I think I will try to make my own if not.
