About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Homemade tomato sauce, lasagna, steak & potatoes, bread, veggies in cheese sauces and whatnot, deep fried mushrooms and zucchini, New England boiled dinners, Yankee pot roasts, Indian pudding, baked beans, cornbread, pulled pork or beef barbecue, slaws, potato salads, macaroni salads, baked or pan cooked salmon or scrod or haddock, stuffed chops, leg o'lamb, etc etc
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a kid when I cooked for my father, he told me everything was delicious. Even the blackened burned cookies which he choked down after breaking them up into a bowl and pouring some milk on them. He never discouraged me, no matter what cooking disaster I presented to him. He always appreciated my effort. He ate all my mistakes and devoured all my successes. He was the best.
My cooking triumphs
People devour my lasagna. In fact, they love my vegetarian eggplant lasagna as much or better than my regular meat lasagna... and that's coming from non-vegetarian hard-core carnivores. The secret is my sauce which is a combination of different sauces of different ladies who taught me over the years, plus my own ideas. My mac & cheese tastes pretty good too.
My cooking tragedies
The usual: my first turkey. Also had a problem with a pressure cooker once, it was pretty ugly.

Tuna Casserole I
I use corn or mixed veggies instead of peas. Sometimes I stir in a cup or so of cooked egg noodles or elbow macaroni before baking. Also good with about 1/4 c. chopped bacon added. Additionally, tastes very good with crushed tortilla chips instead of potato chips. You don't have to layer the ingredients, either... tastes just as good if you put everything together and gently mix it before pouring into the casserole dish. Also, mix in 2 or 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise to make it creamier if you like. This is a good basic recipe for tuna casserole that you can easily improvise on, depending on what's in the cupboard. NOTE: If you think this recipe is too salty, use salt-free chips which are easy to find in any grocery store.
