I made some scrambled eggs this morning, and realized that I was using what I think may be the coolest piece of gear in my kitchen: a cast-iron pan. Yep—that one. The one my mom gave me when I got my first kitchen. The one I’ve carried from place to place, despite how much it weighs. The on MORE

About this Cook
I'm a refugee of the restaurant world, now working as a writer and editor. I don't cook anywhere near as much as I should at home anymore, but I still love to get behind the stove and make good food.
My favorite things to cook
Breakfast; Cajun Foods; Seafood; Anything on the grill; I love making salsa, or anything that requires me to improve my knife skills. And risotto. I love making risotto.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom's cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning; Happy Cocoa at any time during the winter.
My cooking triumphs
Catering several large parties; creating 2 or 3 signature dishes at restaurants where I've worked. At home, it's anytime I can create food that tastes like I want it too.
My cooking tragedies
Macaroni and Cheese. Honestly--I tried following a recipe that I knew was good and believe me, it wasn't when I made it. Still not sure what I did wrong.

Beef Fajita Marinade
Used this on about 20 pounds of flank steak this weekend. Wow! I wasn't very exact with the measurements, but after marinating most of the day, it was the best flank steak I've ever made. Also, I was running low on tequila, so a little white rum got mixed in, too. Topped the steak with some fresh pineapple salsa, and it was a delight.

Blue Cheese Potato Salad
Made this at a party I catered this weekend, and people wouldn't stop talking about it. Made a couple of changes--used cider vinegar in the dressing and roasted the potatoes. But seriously--bacon, blue cheese, and potatoes? If you don't like this, you're just not eating right!

Best Farmers' Market Pimento Cheese
Not normally a pimento cheese fan, but this was excellent.
