About this Cook
I love to run and I love to cook! But aside from that, I'm a senior in highschool, and I am really interested in food and nutrition. For my senior project I am making a cookbook of healthy pizza recipies, so expect to see my recipies here!
My favorite things to cook
It's cold right now, so I'm a soup addict. So, soup and breakfast. I have to wake up extra early to make my breakfast every morning! I love egg recipies of all kinds, and I love trying new, strange produce or grains that I have never seen before...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making ravioli on Christmas, coddled eggs on Christmas morning, and Friday night pizza! And the cranberry-pear sauce that we make on Thanksgiving.
My cooking triumphs
The Halloween Pizza, I was afraid it would be disgusting! But it came out wonderfully...16 slices, 3 people, and only one slice was left in the fridge. And we're very light eaters!
My cooking tragedies
Putting an egg in premade soup, in an attempt to make lazy egg-drop/vegetable soup. It was bland and disapointing.

Citrus Turkey Brine
We halved the salt and added about 1/4 cup white wine to brine a 5lbs turkey breast, and the result was fabulous. The brine gave the turkey a much more deep and complex flavor than simply roasting it does, and our turkey was wonderfully moist! I can't wait to try out this brine on a chicken! : )

Lemon Fluff Cake
This was really, really good. The texture was fabulous - light bust very moist. I subtituted the lemon extract with about 2 tbsp lemon juice and the rind of 1/2 a lemon, and the shortening with unsalted butter. Oh, and I used skim milk. : ) I'm giving this cake four stars because I felt what really made it amazing (even my father went back for seconds! unheard of!) was the lemon glaze I topped it with (just mix lemon juice, confectioners sugar, and lemon rind) and the lemon ricotta creme I served on the side. The combination was oustanding. For the ricotta creme, I just threw about a cup of ricotta (part skim), tbsp lemon juice, lemon rind from one lemon, 1 tbsp half and half, and maybe 2 tbsp sugar? because you can throw it all in the blender, you can really just adjust to your liking. Wonderful recipe. This is probably the new family favorite!
