About this Cook
I'm 24, soon to be 25 (Ja 13/09), and a vegan. I'm the only vegan in my family. I work in the accounting field, but my dream (if I win the lottery) is to open an organic/vegetarian/vegan health food store/lunch cafe. I don't currently travel, but another dream is take a road trip to California; and on the way, spend a night in a teepee at the Wigwam Motel.
My favorite things to cook
I like trying new things with tofu. Usually I take old recipies that I like and change them around to make them vegan. My Grandma does a lot of that for me as well, but her recipies always come out much better than mine ever will. I'm learning to work with yeast now, and it's nice reward when everything works and tastes great.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making Christmas cookies with my Gramma and then making the plates to hand out to her friends around town on Christmas Eve.
My cooking triumphs
All vegan: Shepherds Pie, Cabbage Rolls, Chili, Orange Chicken (tofu), General Tao Tofu, Kung Pow tofu, veggie burgers that actually stay together, bagels, buns, dinner rolls, curried butternut squash soup.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to proof yeast in a milk/butter/water mixture.

Pastry for Double Pie-Crust
Excellent! I haven't used it on a dessert pie yet, but I've used it many times on vegan 'meat' pies and it turns out beautifully. I use half whole wheat and half white flour, fill the pies and then freeze for a quick dinner down the road. I tried it with all ww flour the first time and it didn't work at all, but the 50/50 is great!

Indian-Style Vegetable Rice
I don't know who could possibly eat this and actually enjoy it. I cut it in half, and cut down even more on the cayenne and it was still not unedible. The veggies were the only good thing in this, and thats because it was just stirred in right before serving. I will never make this again! If I could give no stars I would.

Creamy Vegan Corn Chowder
I added potatoes as some other reviewers suggested. I think next time I'll chop the veggies a lil smaller and once they're tender, pulse them in the food processor to make it thicker, and then add the corn. I've never had corn chowder before, and I found this really yummy! One of my new favorites!
