Thumbprint Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
I've giving 3 stars because they did taste good. I added almond and vanilla extract, rolled in grinded raw almonds. Barely makes a dozen, dough very sticky, really didn't cook up very well. I did use European butter which may have been the issue.

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
I've made this several times now and thought I had already reviewed. Very bland recipe as is, but with the addition of some spices made it a 5 star recipe. I added gram marsala and doubled the onions. I also use brown rice. Inexpensive, quick and good for a weeknight meal (the leftovers are even better for lunch the next day)

Winter Energy Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
love these cookies, I subbed honey for the molasses. Not too sweet, soft chewy just the way we like them. I froze half of the dough for use later, will post an update and let others know if the dough cooked well after being frozen UPDATE: took out frozen dough yesterday, thawed first and baked with same wonderful results

Buffalo Style Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2009
Great inexpensive, FAST, tasty and fun weekday (or any day) meal. I used a store bought refrigerated pizza dough, brushed with olive oil and garlic powder, baked first for 6-10 minutes, added toppings but also added some crumbled bacon (because everything taste better with bacon)! Made even easier because I cook additional chicken breast to keep in the freezer for those times I need something quick & easy! Enjoy!

Cola-Brined Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
I thought it was an interesting idea, so I tried this weekend. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Not really any flavor other than some sweetness, which is not our favorite flavor for wings. Sorry, but I will not try this recipe again.

Champagne Punch III

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
I made this for Christmas. It was too tart and much too acid, lemonade, limeade, cranberry was not a good flavor combination for us. Our stomachs were too upset to eat dinner. I should have known better when I read the ingredients but with all the good reviews I thought I would try it. Shame on me!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
Sorry, I know that I should not rate a recipe unless I "faithfully" follow it. However, it was a good foundation, and for that reason I'm writing this reviw. I used leftover Thanksgiving turkey, sauteed onion, clerley, red bell pepper, mushrooms, garlic. Added poultry seasoning, black pepper & salt. One can of c*chicken, 2 cans of low sodium chicken broth, added fresh parsley. 3 biscuits only, 3 (grands biscuits) rolled out and cut into strips ( 2 cans?????)Finished product was very good! Play with it and enjoy!!!!

Creamy Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2008
I really liked the addition of cream, although I used half n half. I also added thyme, lemon zest and juice, grated carrots and cooked with some smoked pork bones. I also did not blend the entire batch because I like some "chunkiness". Served with some garlic cheese bread and had a great meal.

Ed Zieba's Famous Family Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
great, easy recipe. I don't use a lot of salt due to health reasons, so I substituted Mrs Dash, paprika and a little salt for the seasoning salt. Pork chops were very tender and the paprika gives a nice smokey flavor with nice color.

Pineapple Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2008
We enjoyed the flavors very much. The topping didn't firm up without adding more flour. I think that adding the reserved pineapple juice should be clarified to an exact amount. In my case I really didn't need the 3 tbls of water.

Aunt Blanche's Blueberry Muffins

very moist. I cut down on the sugar to 1 cup, didn't add any salt because I used salted butter. Also I sprinkled brown sugar on top before I baked. Wonderful Saturday morning treat! Thank you for the recipe.
