About this Cook
I'm 22 and live with my room mate Manu and my cat Otto. I'm a really adventurous foodie but I don't like sugar in any form. Call me wierd but it gives me bad breath and has a horrible aftertaste. I don't even like cooked carrots because they're too sweet! I love spicy food (think fire hot)and my absolute favorite treat in the whole world is Moishe's kosher pickles in brine.
My favorite things to cook
I love using the slow cooker! Before I had one I would use huge pots on the stovetop but the slow cooker is better because it doesn't require supervision! I like the smell I get in my house when something has been cooking all day. My favorite food has to be soup. Any soup, all soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grand-mother is a typical french-canadian woman who's had the same recipe book for 60 years and still swears by it. She is whom I learned to cook meat from (stews, whole chiken, liver and the like). Mom's a bit of a health nut so she's hooked on stir-fry. Her best cooking comes out at Thanksgiving with the turkey and the stuffing and the pies...Grandma does Christmas with tourtière, meat ball stew and ragoût de pattes, which all sounds gross but is so delicious.
My cooking triumphs
My spaghetti sauce is pretty much the way my grandkids will know it 50 years from now. It's a mix of differnt recipies but it's thouroughly mine and it come out the same every time, which amazes me. I can also cook a whole chiken or turkey with any cookware, including beer cans.
My cooking tragedies
Curry à la bitter, gravy à la flour, stew à la mode (the mode for a while being burnt), pasta à la mode, chiken à la salmonella and the most recent: cooking a huge pot of cabbage and vegetable soup only to realize that I hate the smell of cooked cabbage! The toilet had never seen so much fresh soup...

Toasted Pumpkin Seeds
Soo good! I used 5 cups of seeds with the barely any more seasoning and it turned out great. Eats like popcorn!

Kingman's Vegan Zucchini Bread
Really good; I changed some ingredients(like chrushed fresh peaches en lieu de applesauce) but overall the recipe was spot-on. Maybe a bit sweet for my taste though...bit of a cake-like texture.

Vegan Carrot Soup
This was great!! It's so easy too. I used about 4 to 5 cups of broth made from chicken giblets and vegetables (I happened to be making roast chicken that night too) and it came out very creamy and not baby-foodish at all. I did let it cook for about 40 minutes before pureeing though...thx for the recipe!
