On any given weekend I can be found cooking. I love trying new recipes and I can sit and read cook books like novels. But I am notorious for not being able to stick to a recipe, even if I am trying something for the first time. For me each dish is personal and cooking is a way to show the people in your life that you love them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
You never know what we will serve at Christmas but at Thanksgiving you can count on tradition. Thanksgiving Dinner is the only meal in our house that is tradition by all standards. All family recipes handed down from my Mother. It is a meal I could cook with my eyes closed I know it so well and the easiest dinner I make all year.
My cooking tragedies
If it's a dessert and I made it, you can pretty much guarantee it was a tragedy. I can't bake to save my life. And my husband is the one that makes the sweets in our home. The biggest disaster ever was when I made some very labor intensive sugar cookies that I pain-stakingly iced and painted with great care. Everyone kept telling me they tasted like soap and I thought they were teasing me but when I took a bite I realized, it wasn't soap...it was Pine-Sol. I had wiped the counter top down with Pine-Sol before I laid out a towel to set the cookies on to decorate them. All that work and every one of them had to be thrown out. I never made sugar cookies again, LOL!
