Eggnog French Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
Had leftover eggnog and this was truly the perfect way of using it up. Ran out of pumpkin pie spice so I just subbed with some nutmeg. I don't eat French Toast but the kids thought it was fabulous and to me, that's all that matters. Thank you so much Robyn!

Really good, but I completely left out the brown sugar. For us it was perfect without it. Thank you!

Creamed Tuna On Toast

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
I really wish they made a low sodium version of cream of celery soup so because they don't, I used cream of mushroom instead. As others suggested, I added a can of baby peas and more seasonings. Total comfort food and thank you!

The only two things I added to this delicious side was lots of garlic and some red pepper flakes. Very tasty and thanks Syd!

Beet Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
There are so many taste sensations going on in this salad that your mouth will be doing the happy dance. Slightly sweet, slightly bitter and that nice bite from the feta all works to make one incredible salad. Try adding some candied pecans for another layer of texture and crunch. Yum and thank you Robbie Rice!

Oh my was this ever good! I added some chili powder, just a tad of cumin and used pinto beans in lieu of the black. Everyone went nuts over this one Stephanie and I thank you!

Sesame Brussels Sprouts

This was really good, but as written definitely too salty as another reviewer mentioned. I boiled my sprouts in low sodium chicken broth and also used low sodium soy sauce. This recipe was a nice change and I thank you!

Green Bean Casserole Remix

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
This was a nice change from the regular green bean casserole and we all loved it. Like another reviewer mentioned, it did seem on the thin side, so I added a can of cream of mushroom soup, used fat free half and half and some black pepper. I'll admit, I just couldn't tear myself away from the fried onions, so I did end up adding them to the mix. Excellent recipe chocoholic and thank you!!

'Day Before Payday' Kielbasa and Corn Hash

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
Ha! Love the title of the recipe because we've all been there at one time or another! This was great and the kids really enjoyed it too. Reminded me of a dish my mom made for us when we were kids. I did add in more seasonings but other than that, it was yum as is. To me the fried eggs or even poached are a must to make the dish special. Thank you so much!

Schweinebraten Pork Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
I often use beer when roasting a turkey so I knew this would be spot on with pork. I used a twelve pound bone in fresh ham that had a nice layer of fat on top so there were no worries about it being dry or having to turn it during cooking. The beer added a wonderful flavor to the drippings that resulted in one amazing gravy. Thank you so much!

Easy Cheese and Garlic Scones

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
Given the title of the recipe, I would have expected it to call for much more cheese and garlic. I started out with the suggested half cup of cheese but quickly realized that it wasn't going to shine thru the way I wanted so I ended up using a cup and a half. Two tablespoons of butter was doing nothing in terms of the flour resembling bread crumbs so I increased that to five tablespoons. I also increased the garlic, added in some cayenne for kick and because I happened to have it in the house, I used buttermilk in place of the plain milk. With some personal tweaking, these scones certainly have the potential of being a five star recipe and I thank you ANGG for a great start to something my family devoured with their Christmas dinner!

Coffee Bonbons

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
OMG this is one seriously delicious cookie with just the perfect amount of coffee flavor and melt in your mouth texture. The only thing we did was to add a bit of warm water to the instant coffee granules to dissolve rather than add them in dry. Absolutely wonderful and one that will make an appearance every year on my Christmas cookie tray. Thank you so much!!

Patti's Mussels a la Mariniere

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
Oh yum!!!!!! We're garlic freaks so I used a whole head, more wine than suggested, chicken broth and just a bit of fat free half and half. You can certainly serve this over pasta, but better yet, serve as is with a salad and a nice loaf of crusty bread to sop up all of the delicious goodness! Thank you!!

Cheddar Pull-Apart Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
In reading the reviews and seeing that some found this bread to be bland, I took the liberty of adding a bit of onion into the dough along with additional cheddar cheese and some garlic and onion powders. The end result was so good and enjoyed by my whole family. Thank you!

Taylor's Piroshki

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
Absolutely delicious! My friend Rob made, reviewed and turned me on to these yummy treats that we all ended up loving! Being that he's the Piroshki King, he suggested that a nice variation is adding in a bit of shredded cheese. I made these appy size and they were gobbled up. Thank you Taylor's Mommy!

Russian Tea Cakes III

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
Amazingly similar to my Oma's Vanille Kipferls with the exception of the confectioners sugar instead of granulated. If making these ahead of time, you may have to give them another roll in the powdered sugar to brighten them up as it has a tendency to yellow as the cookies sit. A quick and easy recipe that results in a delightful and delicious, tender cookie your family and friends will love. Thank you Emma!

Sesame Thumbprint Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
I've made many a thumb print cookie and thought these looked really yummy with the addition of the sesame seeds. However, while mixing I found that the dough appeared to be very dry and crumbly which made me a little nervous. I had tripled the recipe so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it, but to be on the safe side, I added in two eggs which added enough moisture to work with the dough. Two tablespoons of sesame seeds wasn't nearly enough for even a single batch, so I increased that by quite a bit. The end result was a beautiful little festive looking cookie that just melted in your mouth. Delicious and thank you!

Golden Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
I seasoned my chops with garlic and onion powders and black pepper but no salt due to the high sodium that's already in the soup. I browned the chops and then placed them in the slow cooker with lots of mushrooms. Just before serving, I removed the chops and added some sour cream to the gravy. So good and thank you!
