About this Cook
I don't like Urban winters so I alternate six months in Minnesota, six months on the gulf coast of Alabama.
My favorite things to cook
I cook everyone (15 families) caramels for our Christmas gift exchange; I use the Caramels I from All Recipes. My nephew and his family make jelly jars of the best apple butter ever for the gift exchange! My nephew and his wife make wonderful coconut/butterscotch cookies -- she won't give out the recipe!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have a pie contest every Thanksgiving. I won once with a pecan-bourbon-bacon pie.
My cooking triumphs
I have found it is imperative to pay attention to the reviews for each recipe from this web site.
My cooking tragedies
I've had plenty of cooking disasters but I just keep in mind my grandmother's. As a new bride she got a job as a cook for her new husbands lumberjack crew. She tried making bisquits but they burned. She threw them out the window into the creek where they floated down to where the crew were working. She was ribbed about the floating black bisquits for a long, long time.

Praline Sundae Topping
I have been on a caramel kick this Christmas and decided to try this caramel sauce. I doubled this receipe and added the milk hot as a reviewer suggested. It just didn't taste like caramel and was too runny. Added more marshmallows and recooked it. Turned out much better but not a keeper for me. I'll fiddle around with caramel sauce until I find the perfect mix - and I'll share it!

Caramels I
Caution, just like any taffy like recipe - don't mix while cooking except to prevent scorching. Use a wooden spoon. Keep the thermometer CLEAN and off the bottom. Make sure it is a formable ball rather than soft ball stage. Turned out great using a slightly adjusted mix - less corn syrup and less butter. Next AGUAVE SYRUP! INSTEAD OF CORN SYRUP!!!
