Caramel Snack Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
Super yummy and easy! I made a half batch and the only changes I made were to add about 1 tsp of cinnamon to the butter/sugar mixture after it came out of the microwave. And I substituted about a cup of the cereal for a cup of pretzels. Next time I would add more nuts!! Think it needs a few more. I used unsalted mixed nuts, but next time I will use salted. I think the salty-sweet combo would be awesome. For those in Canada, 12 oz of the Crispix is the 350g box. (or 12 cups).

Curried Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
I love this recipe! It's a staple chicken recipe in our house. Very easy and very very tasty. I have made it "as is" and I've also cut the butter by a tbsp or two and it's always great. Sometimes I substitute one tsp of the curry powder for a tsp of hot curry powder for some kick. Usually I make it with 8 skinless, boneless chicken thighs and serve the sauce over rice. If I think to marinate the dish beforehand, great. But most of the time I don't and it's still fantastic. If the chicken breasts you're using are particularly thick I would suggest cutting them in half. If you have to cook this recipe for longer than about 30 mins the sauce can start to burn.

Maple Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
I think this is a very great basic recipe! I made just a couple simple modifications and it was truly fantastic. I know I like a generous amount of "crisp" topping, so i used 3/4 cup each of the flour, oats and brown sugar. I also added 1 tsp baking powder to the flour. I kept the butter at 1/2 cup. I sprinkled the apples with about a tbsp of corn starch, then tossed them with the maple syrup. Helped to thicken all the juices a little I think. I then sprinkled a tbsp or so of cinnamon over the apples before pressing the oat topping lightly over the apples. yumm

Wilderness Place Lodge Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2011
Superb cookie!! definitely one of my favourite cookie recipes. Everyone absolutely loves them :) I half the recipe and it still makes nearly three dozen. I omit the raisins (not a fan), use pecans instead of walnuts, and I increase the choc chips to 1.5 cups (for half recipe).

Slow-Cooked Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2011
Great base recipe and so easy! changes I made, which made it 5-stars for simplicity and taste are: I increased the milk to 3 cups and the frozen corn to 2 cups. To the recipe i added 2 celery stalks, 2 carrots, and 4 med. red potatoes (partly cooked in the microwave, skin on), chopped into small pieces. Instead of parsley I used 1.5 tsp of oregano. Oh...and I added a few dashes of hot sauce and omitted the butter. Great recipe!!

Brunch Strata

Reviewed: May 2, 2009
Thanks for the great recipe! you were right - everyone asked for the recipe!! I made it for a brunch baby shower. Only changes I made were that I only used 1 tbsp of oil for sauteeing the veggies, used red pepper instead of green, used old/sharp cheddar, more black pepper and I halved the recipe to make just one casserole dish. Excellent!

One Egg Lemon Pound Cake

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
Just made this and it came out wonderfully! I added the zest of one lemon, and 1/2 tsp more of the lemon extract, but the lemon flavour is still quite subtle. I'd add more next time. Also, would be great with some dried cranberries, or poppyseeds added to the batter. Mine turned out more cake-like than a dense pound cake. Great easy recipe!

Gramma's Date Squares

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2009
This is a fabulous recipe! Exactly what I was looking for. The squares set nicely and held together. As per some reviews, I packed down the crust very well and baked the crust for 6 mins - while the dates were cooking. I also didn't add the sugar to the dates because the dates I bought were "honey dates" and quite sweet as they are. I packed down the topping, too, the best I could, and the result was great!

Hungarian Goulash II

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
I LOVE this recipe! I've made it many times and always get compliments. The best part is that it is so easy, and uses ingredients that you have on hand. I follow the recipe to a "T" (except I add less salt and I use stewing beef) and always have lots of great sauce to serve over the egg noodles. Thanks for the recipe!

Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
This recipe is a keeper! i've made it several times (with both frozen and fresh berries) and people always rave about it. It's like a big delicious moist blueberry muffin! The batter is quite thick and I find it hard to 'swirl' the struessel layer in the middle, so I just sprinkle it on and add the rest of the batter. I find it takes longer than the recipe states to cook through.
