High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
This roast came out fantastic. Perfectly pink all the way through. My only complaint is that I get a fair amount of smoking during the high temp part (enough that I need to open a window or two so not to set off the smoke detectors). But nevertheless, this is how I will make my roasts from now on. YUM!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
Well I had such high hopes for this recipe given all the good reviews. I followed the recipe mostly as written except for taking the advice of others and substituting chicken broth for the water, adding some spices and cooking the dumplings longer. It was still bland, the dumplings were unimpressive and the whole thing was just mushy and boring. Sorry, but my family didn't care for it at all and I would not make it again. I had to throw most of it out. :-(

Anniversary Chicken I

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2009
This one got mixed reviews in my house. 9 year old hated it; 11 year old liked it somewhat; husband liked it; me, I found it insanely salty. I followed the recipe exactly except taking others suggestion and didn't put the cheese on until the last 15 minutes. Sorry, I'm just not getting all the rave reviews on this on and I doubt I will make it again.

Spiced Pecans

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2009
Wow, are these addictive!!! Everywhere I brought them over the holidays, they were a hit and I was asked for the recipe several times. I did mine on parchment paper because the first batch stuck so badly. Other than that, followed recipe exactly. Will be making these again for sure. Thanks.!

These were very good. Not EXACTLY what I was looking for that my grandmother used to make, but still they were great and enjoyed by all. Thanks for posting.

Rosemary Sherry Pork Chops

Only one of my kids liked this. The rest of us didn't. Sorry, but I just don't get all the rave reviews on this one. I followed recipe exactly. Just not our cup of tea I guess.

My family raved about this. Even my picky boys. It was so moist and tender. I will definitely make this again and again! Thanks for a great recipe!

Melt - In - Your - Mouth Shortbread

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
I guess I'm in the camp who found these too crumbly and bland. I can't imagine trying to transport these to a party. The reviewer who suggested leaving them in the oven a minute longer to help prevent this was right on. The ones I took out too soon were impossible to even remove from the cookie sheet without them disintegrating. I took someone else's advice and added a tsp. of vanilla but still found them rather bland - so I ended up icing most of them. And, yes, they certainly do melt in your mouth, but I just can't warm up to these. Sorry.

Newport Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2008
EXCELLENT chowder. I doubled the recipe because I was having a crowd. Followed the recipe exact except for adding some salt.....just a preference. Everyone raved. I liked the fact that I didn't have to deal with cooking bacon too like so many other chowder recipes. This one is a keeper!

Tuscan Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
I would call this soup good but not as great as all the reviews describe. I liked it fine but my family didn't AT ALl. Followed the recipe to the letter except, based on the reviews, I doubled it thinking everyone would wolf it down. Big mistake.

WAAAAAAAY too salty. I wish I'd read the reviews first and omitted the salt entirely. I think it would be fine without ANY salt.

Garlic Butter

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
The only reason this did not get 5 stars is that it was OBCENELY salty! I only used 1 tsp. instead of the 1 Tablespoon of garlic salt and it was still too salty for our taste. I wish I'd read the reviews beforehand. Anyway, without the garlic salt, this is a great recipe which will become our standard for garlic bread and more!

Cream of Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2003
Wish I could jump on the bandwaggon of rave reviews but I found this to be quite bland. I followed the recipe exactly except for using half and half as others suggested. After trying it and being disappointed, I added 1/2 tsp. curry powder and 1/2 tsp coriander. Helped immensely. I would make it again with those changes.

This marinade was great. And sooo easy. No mincing garlic or chopping herbs. I used it on steak tips and everyone loved it. Will definately use this again and again.

These were pretty good. I guess I was expecting more from all the other reviews. My kids liked them. Next time I'll fill the muffin cups more. Mine didn't seem to rise much. Good way to use up those bananas.

Italian Style Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2003
Dug this out of my recipe file after printing it out in 2001 but never trying it. Wish I had gotten on-line to read the recent reviews. I too had the problem of them being a bit soggy. I'll try the broiler tip next time. The taste was awesome. My VERY picky husband couldn't stop raving. My 5 yr. old who never eats pork chops ate these. I realized it was way too much coating, so I put half in a zip lock bag before using to save for later. Will definately be making again and again.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies I

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2003
These were very good. My husband and kids LOVE them. I find them a tad more cakelike than I prefer but the taste is wonderful. I did take the advice of others and used an extra 1/4 cup sugar and used rounded instead of level teaspoons of cinnamon and nutmeg. Will definately make again.

Beef Bourguignon II

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2003
Well, I doubled the recipe thinking I was having more guests. Turned out it was only 4 of us and there were no leftovers!! I served it over wide egg noodles with a caesar salad and crusty French bread. It did come out drier than I expected so I may add more liquid next time. I used 1 cup beef broth and 1 cup wine. Also, could not find "canned" onions anywhere but found pearl onions in a jar. Don't know if that's the same thing but it's what I used. Would definately make this again.
