About this Cook
I'm a Virgo and tend to be overly critical. Very rare that I leave a recipe "original". Make it as written the first time and then add or subtract to it to improve for my taste. I'm an avid knitter, scrapbooker, card maker, genealogy, photography, cat loving, painter living in the Last Best Place on earth.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake different kinds of bread. I'm not into the overbrowned, hard, dry breads though. Pies are another favorite (from scratch only--I hate frozen pie crusts and canned fillings--might as well just buy it at the store!) Fond memories of pies all the way from picking and cleaning the fruit to rolling the dough and the baking smells.
My favorite family cooking traditions
It's my table for the family Thanksgiving Dinner and Fourth of July picnic. As my children and grandchildren say--my pumpkin pie is fantastic! Swedish meatballs are also at the top of the request list. Fudge at Christmas is a joy that starts the day after Thanksgiving so it will be properly aged before Christmas.
My cooking triumphs
BBQ brisket recipe that is almost a never fail. Making and decorating wedding cakes for my niece and nephew.
My cooking tragedies
Forgot to put the sugar in the pumpkin pie one year!

Scotch Eggs with Mustard Sauce
I followed the recipe up to cover eggs with sausage but then I baked mine in an oven 325° for about 30 minutes and we liked them like that. Another way to get rid of the gray ring is to steam the eggs, not boil them-the ring is caused from cooking them too long. If you don't have a steamer (rice cooker will work)-put the eggs in water, cover and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and let set for 12 minutes then cool rapidly in ice water.

Baked Falafel
Not to my tastes or liking. There is nothing that would improve this dish, even catsup. Never will I make it again.

Rice and Raisin Breakfast Pudding
Mediocre is about the only way to describe this recipe. Maybe if the soy milk and syrup were left out and served as a side dish it would be better but . . . I won't make it again. I'll stick with my old fashioned recipe for rice pudding.
