I'm married with a 2yr old, originally from the deep south and now living in Spain. I grew up in Georgia with all that deep southern home cooking. Add to that my family are italians (I'm 4th generation in America) so we have some definite pasta roots. I enjoy cooking, it's how I unwind after a stressfull day.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about everything, although I am definately a meat and potatoes man. Living in Spain, I dabble into the spanish cuisine- which is VERY different from mexican- but nothing notable so far. I enjoy cooking italian, and traditional american dishes more than anything else.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up in a house of 4 kids with a single working mother. Needless to say, we all had to pull our weight and do chores. Cooking was one of those, and if you wanted to eat you had to learn how to cook. So I got started in the kitchen very early. Watching my mom, I learned lots of the little tricks that make things turn out better.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving, hands-down. Everyone I know anxiously awaits thanskgiving day so they can come to my house and eat an authentic american thanksgiving meal like what they see in the movies. Having limited u.s. ingredients, I've learned to make everything from scratch- from toasting bread for stuffing, to grinding pumpkin pie spices. After a few so-so meals, things turn out pretty well.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make banana-nut bread with no measuring cups (or spoons) and converting the u.s. measurements into metric. It turned into a gummy, baked loaf of baking soda flavored flour. ugh!
