I am a 24 year old, single mother of one beautiful adopted daughter that was born 9/16/2008. I first started cooking when I was about 8 years old, it was basically just scrambled eggs then, but it began my love of cooking. I grew up watching my grandmother in the kitchen and taking notes from her. She is the most awesome woman in the world and a master in the kitchen!
My favorite things to cook
southwest style eggrolls, cakes, pies, anything that tastes good! lol
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving has always been a great time for my family to get together and my grandmother and I share recipes and critique each others newest recipes that we have included in the dinner. That's when I find out if my dishes pass the grandma test :o)
My cooking triumphs
I take pride in my cooking so I feel like there are many triumphs. I'd say my proudest so far was the first thanksgiving turkey I cooked by myself! I got the recipe here and made a few changes, it turned out better than I had hoped!
My cooking tragedies
aaahh! There have been many of those also! You have to make mistakes to learn from them! I don't know how many times I burnt the edges on my pies before I learned the foil trick. Too much salt or not enough seasoning on things was another problem. Meat too dry because I overcooked it (I have a fear of food poisoning that seems to go a little overboard at times)
Oh! I can't leave out the first time I tried to make burgers on a grill! It was a little electric grill, I didn't think to open the vents on the top, when I opened it to check the burgers the steam came out and I got 3rd degree burns on my hand!! I was so afraid of cooking on a grill after that I didn't even try again until this year! All went well this time!
