Ever since I was little I loved to watch my grandmother cook and bake. My mother wasn't the greatest cook in the work so I was allowed into the kitchen at an early age to help out and eventually cook my own meals on occasion. I received a technical degree in culinary arts at 18, my associates in culinary arts at 20, and am about to complete my bachelors degree in May. I have been bitten by the food bug and hope to never find the cure.
My favorite things to cook
Anything out of the ordinary. I really enjoy taking things that aren't supposed to be included in a dish and making it something completely different. Or I like to take savory items and turn them into desserts or vise versa.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom's casserole. Yes, I said she cant really cook. But one night she got desperate and started throwing things into a casserole dish (tatter tots, cream of mushroom soup, cheese) just whatever she had in the cabinet. It looked horrible (my brother and I call it barf) but it is the most delicious casserole in the world. I will share the recipe soon.
My cooking triumphs
I would have to say that perfecting my grandmother's recipes is my triumph in work if you will. She left me all of her best recipes and I now run a cookie business using her "Double Cruncher" recipe.
My cooking tragedies
When I was about nine or ten we were living in Germany and I had the crazy idea of making chocolate cheese. I wanted to melt the two down and combine them, cool and enjoy. Well we used a Hershey's bar and I believe Velveta and as you could imagine, we were spitting it out.
