About this Cook
I am a single mother of a wonderful four year old, Spane. My home seems to always be open, and something is always coming out of the kitchen. I enjoy cooking for my friends and family.
My favorite things to cook
I get a kick out of barbecueing on my Weber grill, using my 18 quart Nesco, my Kitchenaid Professional Stand Mixer, and my Cuisinart cookware. Most of my friends come over and there's something Italian coming out of the kitchen.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My aunt made Oyster Cornbread Dressing, and was well known for it. I have continued the tradition, and added some of my own.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving 2007 - 16lb turkey in the Nesco, potato casserole, sweet potato casserole, oyster cornbread dressing, fresh cranberry sauce, hand made rolls, brussel sprouts with shallots and red wine vinegar. I started cooking at 8am and we sat down to dinner at 6:30pm. Everything was perfect.
My cooking tragedies
See? I very rarely buy fast food - but the other day, I got a pizza with some chicken wings. I went to reheat the wings in their package in the microwave and did not know there was foil. The package caught fire, and my microwave smelled like a plastic barbeque for days! I will now write this 100 times - no more fast food, no more fast food, no more....

Magic Cookie Bars I
The first time I had these was in 1973 when I went on vacation with my girl friends in San Clemente. Nancy's mother had made these and left them in the refrigerator for us to have when we got there. Oh My God, they were so good. Hers also had marshmellows on top. I got the recipe from her mother, and made them a few times, but over the years, the recipe got lost in moving. I am very glad to find it here. The other thing that I do differently is mix the butter and crackers together with a tablespoon of sugar - it helps the crust stay together, and the crust is good in its own right.
