About this Cook
I'm from an eclectic heritage of European immigrants to the US. Home cooking is a tradition for us. It not only satisfies our basic human need for healthy food, but it brings us together and sometimes making food ourselves is really the only way to get some of the traditional foods we like.
My favorite things to cook
I mainly cook quick stuff because of time constraints, but I love to make long cooking and involved meals when there's time. My favorite foods to cook are fall foods: pies, applesauce, turkey, pork roast, ...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making Finnish coffee bread (pulla) and Christmas cookies with my sister. We devastate the tiny kitchen in our mom's house for a few days while we make all the cookies and bread we'll pass around.
My cooking triumphs
Chile rellenos (not sure I spelled that right)
My cooking tragedies
The biggest mishap in the kitchen was an early attempt at corn dogs when my boyfriend poured the cream directly into the deep fryer instead of into the bowl where we were mixing the batter. We had to run for cover until the oil finished exploding.

English Muffins
So good! It was pretty dry the day I made mine and I only used about 5 1/2 cups of flour. I probably should have tried to get more in because they deflated a little when I picked them up to put them in the pan. But they were still delicious. One important note: don't toss out the scraps when you're done cutting out the rounds. Cook them up first and eat them as snacks while you cook up the big ones. :)

Raspberry Pie II
This was so simple yet delicious! I will definitely make this again. The brown sugar in this was really good. I made it with frozen berries (raspberries and blackberries) and took the advice of using 3 tbs of corn starch, which worked out well. I would put in about 3 cups of berries though because they settled as the cooked and I ended up with a half-full pie. It also took a little longer to bake because it started out cold.
