I have two children, Chloe (3) and Holden (1). I am married to Blair, and we've been friends for 20 years now!
My favorite things to cook
I used to make a great homemade spaghetti sauce from a recipe I got out of Victoria magazine. Now it's often Ragu with meatballs (at least we do whole wheat spaghetti) or mac and cheese with tuna! Lately I've been trying more casseroles and slow cooker meals. Maybe when our tomatoes get ripe this summer, I will pull out the old homemade spaghetti recipe ...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Before we had kids, my husband and I had a weekly "fish night" with salmon and wine. I associate no-bake cookies with memories of my Grandma Coral, who liked making them for us.
My husband's family is now doing a family "Biggest Loser" competition that I'm participating in, so I'll be looking for the low-cal recipes for a while.
My cooking triumphs
I made a complete Thanksgiving dinner (well, I made all the traditional foods like turkey, stuffing, gravy, etc.) for eight people (in-laws!) a few years ago and everyone seemed to agree that it came out yummy!
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 8, my Mom left me in charge of cooking the hot dogs in the microwave while the babysitter was at our house. I put them in for something like 20 minutes instead of 20 seconds! When I was 18, I left a chicken boiling on the stove while I went back to my high school to work in the dark room for a while. When I came home, a fire truck was in front of my house and the firefighter out front was carrying a burned pot with the carcass of a chicken!! I guess I was supposed to put a lid on that! Good thing my parents had home insurance that paid for removing smoke from the ceilings!
