Not much to tell. I had a Great Grandmother Iris (my Father's Grandma) who cooked, I called it depression cooking because that woman could take one skinny little chicken and make 5 meals out of it to feed a family of 15. She was a saint, and taught me quite a bit. My Mother is a phenomenal cook, and also taught me alot when I was small. But my cooking and baking ablilities really have to go to my Gram (my Mother's Mother). Not that she was a very good cook, but she taught me that you can do anything you set your mind to. She was right.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake bread..and I love to bake cakes...I also love to make those old recipes from when I was a child. Like the veggie soup Great Grandma made, or the melt in your mouth London broil my Gram made. Those things remind me of when I was a child and are very comforting.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't think we really have anything like that, but it seems we may be in the process of developing a few, now that my sister is geographically closer.
My cooking triumphs
Baking bread from scratch, learning herbs and spices well enough to come up with my own creations. The point is Baking is a Science...cooking is an art.
My cooking tragedies
The entire time I was married to my first husband...that poor man, we are lucky we didn't die of starvation. I knew very basic things, and was VERY young...but I eventually got over it, and from time to time, he gets to sample where his rather painful sacrifice got me.
