About this Cook
I'm college age, taking a year off of school to move to Seattle to begin my industrious career as a hippie. My new house has a tiny kitchen as a gas oven and I don't know how I'm going to survive. There isn't even enough room for my coffee maker! Right now, though, my biggest challenge is being able to afford all the ingredients for all the recipes I want to make!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. I love to try new recipes. I adore making food that my friends and family ask for again and again.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Both my parents are amazing cooks, and my mom always made a point of explaining to me what she was doing while she made dinner. I guess my favorite would be my dad's chili, though, because it's delicious and unique.
My cooking triumphs
The fact that all my friends and family request baked goods from me constantly is my greatest triumph, I think.
My cooking tragedies
My mom has a wonderful recipe for a banana chocolate chip cake, and when I was in middle school I attempted it... and accidentally added twice the butter it called for. It was a bit greasy, to say the least.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
These are fantastic. I followed the recipe exactly as is (with the exception of sifting the flour...) and was rewarded with big, delicious, chewy chocolate chip cookies. My roommate brought some to a sick friend (who also happens to be a chef) who even said they were some of the best cookies he's ever had. So, yeah, 5 stars all the way, my friend.

Challah I
I can't even tell you how much I loved this bread--not only eating it, but baking it, as well. I think that next time I'll add a little extra honey, though, because I like my challah sweet.

Whole Wheat Muffins
This is a fun recipe to play around with. For one, I substituted applesauce for oil, Splenda for sugar, and almond milk for the regular milk. I added frozen blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. I also used 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour and 1/2 cup oatmeal. I was actually using this recipe as a base to try and duplicate the muffins made at the Newsroom in Los Angeles... I'm still working on it, but this recipe really helped get me started! Thank you!
