Cinnamon Focaccia

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
I'm giving this four stars because I think the recipe will be very good when I make it again, but I used wheat flour which turned out to be a huge mistake. It overwhelmed the cinnamon flavor, and is too "healthy" tasting to be enjoyable. I did, however, cut the recipe in half because 2 pizza-sized focaccias is enough to feed a large gathering rather than a few people.

Spicy Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2009
This recipe is great! Given I don't love turkey burgers and I hate the crunch of onions and veggies, I was amazed at how much I loved this burger! I didn't use cilantro, and definitely don't think it's needed if you don't liked it. Only one warning--my friend was chopping the chili peppers and then touched her eye, and her entire face and eye became inflamed.

Cocktail Wieners II

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
I made this recipe for an Oktoberfest party, and everyone loved it. I think using chili sauce instead of cocktail sauce would definitely be good, as the cocktail sauce is a bit strong even with the sweetness of the grape jelly. I think it would also be good to use these wieners for pigs in a blanket, either as a marinade before cooking them, or as a dip on the side.

Beer Dip I

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
This recipe is good, but not something I could eat consistently due to the heavy cream cheese flavor. That being said, people raved about the recipe. I made it twice in one week; the first time I followed the recipe exactly and found it tasty, but the second time I added some jalapeno and topped with scallions, and liked the added zest even better. I used a hand beater to mix the cream cheese and shredded cheese, and didn't have a problem with lumpiness. I used Miller Lite, and found that to be appealing.

Beef Tenderloin in a Port Shiitake Reduction

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
This is a very good recipe, but it would be better to have more vegitables, or a bed of rice to complete the meal. For the initial cooking of the meat, I would recommend grilling slightly below desired doneness, as the re-heating at the end does make it a bit darker.

Caribbean Canadian Glazed Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
This dish was ok, but the marinade wasn't as strong as I was expecting. I think a more equal ratio of ketchup to rum would be more appealing, and I'm not sure chicken thighs were the best cut of meat.

Cranberry Fluff

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
This recipe was ok, but not nearly as tasty as I was hoping. One cup of whipped cream is way too much for the the main ingredients to absorb, and the combination of marshmallows with the fruit wasn't as pleasant as I expected.

Crab Imperial II

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2009
This is delicious! Full of spice and zest--it's almost like a baked crab cake. If you're not using fresh crab, a pound is no less than four cans. And the bread crumbs are definitely a must-have. Thanks!

Bourbon Chicken

This recipe is delicious! I didn't marinade the chicken overnight, and it still came out wonderfully. Thanks!

Baked Chicken and Brie

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2009
Good, safe recipe. The cheese should probably go on the chicken no more than 20 minutes into cooking otherwise the chicken will begin to dry, and it will take at least 5-10 minutes to melt. Be sure to pour some of the cooking wine on top of the chicken for moistness.

Surprise Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2009
This recipe was ok, but I've had better, and it looks nothing like the the photo (the icing is chocolate, not white). The cook time is much closer to 40 minutes, otherwise it will be undercooked.

Balsamic Chicken and Fresh Mozzarella

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
Delicious! I forgot to marinade the chicken breasts overnight so slow-cooked the breasts in the marinade instead, which actually made the meat more tender as it pan-cooked.

Cranberry Dream Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
This recipe is scrumptious! I actually had to use raspberries since cranberries were unavailable (harder to find during the summer), so lowered the addition of sugar as they were frozen in sweetened syrup. Perfect recipe if your oven is already occupied.

Cracked Sugar Cookies II

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
These cookies were very good, but definitely could have used a frosting or sprinkled sugar on top. My friends, however, loved them as-is.

Chicken Roll Ups

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
This dish was delicious! Be sure to buy smaller chicken breasts if possible (or slice in half) as larger breasts will be hard to roll. I used light italian dressing to save on calories, and a hickory bbq sauce to match the bacon. I also don't have a grill so broiled instead, and it turned out wonderfully without the bacon burning. Thanks!

Crab and Swiss Melts

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
This melt is ok, but has too much cream cheese and not enough flavor, even after adding a little garlic salt and onion salt. It was also too rich for a lunch or dinner; I would suggest serving on smaller pieces of toasted bread as an appetizer

Crab Bites

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2009
This recipe was ok, but pretty uninspiring. The crab is impossible to taste, and the cream cheese and spices do nothing for taste. Edible, but not special.

Guacamole

I thought this recipe was really good, but could have had a bit more zest. I would recommend adding diced jalapeno, and perhaps a bit more garlic.

BBQ Steak Teriyaki

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
I liked this recipe, although my boyfriend wasn't as thrilled. Be sure to use a good teriyaki sauce as it's the primary ingredient. I also think the ginger adds an element that probably isn't necessary unless you love ginger.

Cinnamon Coffee Cake I

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
I'll definitely try this recipe again, but will make some changes. As is, the recipe is a little bland. The cinnamon sugar layers aren't distinctive, and the crust is the only redeeming part of the coffee cake (I added melted butter to the top layer of cinnamon sugar). This step could probably be added to all cinnamon sugar layers. I also did the 1/2 white sugar, 1/2 brown sugar method, but am not sure if this made much of a difference. Overall, not bad, but not wonderful.
