About this Cook
I am a web developer and graphic artist.
My favorite things to cook
Tempura battered Halibut and chips. I also like to try the recipes I see on my favorite show, America's Test Kitchen.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father and mother both cook but I make entirely different things. The only exception is my father's recipe for pizza dough.
My cooking triumphs
Orange Flavored Chicken. I have a few recipes that are very good but the Orange Flavored Chicken I made for the first time 2 weeks ago is, so far, the best yet.
My cooking tragedies
My earliest failure was at age seven with my "Suzy Homemaker" oven. My mother tried a piece of the itty-bitty cake I had made. I even made icing. My mother asked me what I used to make the icing. I replied, "Quick, flour and water". My mother said "that's chocolate flavored paste!" She took me into the kitchen and taught me how to make real icing. Ironically, it was more often the failures, not the successes, that were the greatest teachers.

Coconut Gumdrop Cookies
This is one of the best cookie recipes I have ever made. I was searching for a recipe with the ingredients coconut, pecans and oatmeal and this recipe was on the list. I didn't have gum drops so I used chopped up dried apricots. I have never purchased gum drops before but I am going to so that I can make this recipe as written. Yum.

Dark Molten Chocolate Cakes
The first time I made this it didn't turn out very well. I overbaked it at 14 minutes, probably because I preheated the pan underneath the cups. The second time the recipe turned out perfectly with the texture similar to photo #1. I baked it for 14 minutes on the middle rack of the oven and did not preheat the pan under the cups. You really have to watch them. I have posted a photo of what they were like when I took them out.

Flan II
This is a very good, simple recipe. It also helped to have the step by step instructions about how to prepare the pan with water etc. I followed the recipe exactly except for adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract and it turned out perfectly.
