I learned to cook (just the basics)when i was still 11 years old. All of my sisters, four of them, love to cook. I learned from them, even from my older brother. There something about cooking that makes me feel good. I find relief from stress and the feeling when your cooking gets appreciated is just...oh..so good.
My favorite things to cook
I really love to bake! i love to bake cakes, brownies, cookies, pies and other some sort of goodies. I love to do some little experiments (you may not ask but i'm a science major student when i was in college). Mix these with that and those to come up with some new recipes that are edible (laughs).
My favorite family cooking traditions
We all love cakes! When we were little and once lived in the farm, my mother used to bake cake in a big cooking pot. It's really pretty amazing.
We all love to eat so we all love to cook. And since we live in the Philippines where we celebrate fiestas, we always make sure there's plenty of food for the visitors. We always have our pork stew, pork or chicken adobo, sinigang, spicy chevon stew, and sometimes the famous roasted pig.
My cooking triumphs
I wanted to learn how to cook because of my dad. The first time i tried to cook (because I didn't have the choice), my dad didn't like it. I was disappointed but challenged to do better. Then I had my sweet potato cookies which he said was soft and he liked it. It was when i tried harder to cook better.
When i was a freshman high school, i joined a cooking contest and i won. From then on, i became more inspired to learn to cook.
My cooking tragedies
I can remember when I baked my ever requested chocolate cake that burnt like a brittle charcoal. I was really tired then because i did all the cooking for the fiesta. It was 1am when I placed the cake in the oven. I have to wait for like 30 mins, so, I took rest on the sofa and didn't realized I fell into a deep sleep. My mom who woke up early realized that something was burning. After she got the cake from the oven, tadah! charcoal cake!. Good we were not burned together with the cake. whew!
