Gourmet Caramel Apples

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
I love making these for people and watching their face when I give it to them. It really is gourmet looking and they can't believe I made it. This year for our Christmas Eve dinner, I used them for the name tags for the plates. (See picture). Everyone loved it and they got to take it home for a treat later.

Angel Food Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
I can't believe how good these are. I made these for my Christmas cookie platter and they were the first to go. Everyone raved about them. I don't have a candy thermometer and the first time I made these, I didn't cook the sugar mixture long enough and they didn't turn out. The second time I cooked it for almost half an hour and kept testing drops in water. It was perfect. I will be making this every Holiday!

If you like molasses cookies then you need to try this recipe. They were soft and very flavorful. I will make these every Christmas for my cookie platter. I think Santa might enjoy them too.

Very Easy Shrimp Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
It really is very easy and it was loved by everyone which is even better. I doubled the recipe and made my own cocktail sauce. Ketchup, horseradish and lemon juice. You can add a little brown sugar if you don't like it too spicy. Just keep adding and tasting until you like it.

Greek Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
I loved this BEFORE I added the reserved artichoke juice. The whole salad tasted like marinated artichokes after the juice was added. Next time I'll just add more lemon juice and a little olive oil.

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
This was the third year in a row that I've made this pecan pie for Thanksgiving. It's not overly sweet like a lot of pecan pies. I think the only thing I don't like is that the chopped pecans sink in the pie while cooking and you don't see them when the pie is done. Easy remedied by lying whole pecans on the top, just so people know what they are cutting a piece of.

Milk Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
I made two of these breads. One with 2% milk and one with soy milk, since one family member can't drink cows milk. The one with 2% was okay, but better toasted. The soy milk bread was wonderful! Since soy milk is thicker and slightly sweet, it carried over to the bread. The soy bread was moister and a tad sweeter then the 2% bread. Everyone in the family was fighting over the soy bread. This bread recipe is going in the file but with soy milk.

Pasta with Kielbasa and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
I really thought I was going to love this since I love kielbasa, sauerkraut and pasta, but for some reason this was very bland to us. I cooked it as written too. We had to add hot sauce to finish it. I guess you can't love them all.

Baked Potato Soup

Even though I forgot to bake my potatoes, this turned out great. I peeled and diced my raw potatoes and cooked the soup until the potatoes were tender. As with most soups, this was even better the next day.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
Man, do I love pancakes. To tell you the truth, I'm never ate a pancake I didn't like. When I make pancakes at home I usually make the "Good Old Fashioned Pancakes" from this site, which are awesome! I was feeling wild and crazy one morning and decided to try a different recipe. I picked this one because of the white vinegar. Most people know that when you put white vinegar in milk and let it sit for a bit, it makes buttermilk or sour milk. That little 2 tablespoons of vinegar makes such a difference in the taste and texture of the pancakes. They were super fluffy and so tasty! No matter what pancake recipe I make for now on, I'm adding white vinegar to the milk.

Easy Broccoli Quiche

I don't like mozzarella in my quiche so instead I added half swiss and half cheddar cheese. To give it more flavor I added some chopped ham. With these changes, it's a 5 star.

Spooky Witches Fingers

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
Happy Halloween everyone! These are a great Halloween treat for a party. There are a lot of people saying these were not very sweet so a added a few spoonfulls extra powdered sugar and a few drops of green food dye for fun. I also used strawberry jelly and a few drop of red food dye instead of the red gel. Either would work, I just had the jelly on hand already. The recipe made 60 "fingers" exacting for me but I guess it would depend in how thick and long you make them. I'm taking them to a Halloween party tonight and I know everyone will love them.

Banana Chip Muffins I

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
I've made these a few times, the first as wriiten, and they just didn't have the flavor I wanted. I've been playing with this recipe and I have the perfect banana muffins my family loves. 2 cups flour, 1 T. baking powder, 1/2 t. salt, 1/2 cup shortening, 1 cup sugar (1/2 white 1/2 brown), 2 eggs, 1 1/2 cup mashed bananas, 1 t. lemon juice, and 1 cup chocolate chips (or 1 cup nuts). I do the directions the same but I bake at 375 degrees F for 25 minutes.

Slow-Cooked Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
This was pretty good though a little sweet, I guess from the corn. The only change I made was instead of the hash browns, I shredded a potato. I had to keep adding salt and pepper to counter act the sweetness.

Pumpkin Syrup

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
Usually I just have butter on my pancakes. I'm not a big syrup fan but I'm a huge pumpkin fan so I had to try this with my pumpkin pancakes. I used 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice instead of the cinnamon and allspice. Yes, it was more spice than called for but that's how I like it. I will make this again especially when company comes for the hoildays.
