About this Cook
I'm a stay-at-home mom to my 9 year old daughter, 7 year old son and 38 year old husband. Yes, he is my first child. I've always enjoyed cooking to an extent but recently have really gotten into it more. I think because my kids aren't the picky eaters they used to be.
My favorite things to cook
I've always been more of a baker from cookies to bread. I think there's nothing like the smell of fresh baked bread. I also love to make (and eat) soup.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up we never really had "cooking traditions." My mom cooked, we eat...end of story. I wasn't interested in cooking when I was young so I never even watched her cook. I want to change that with my kids so I ask them if they want to help me cook. Sometimes they want to, sometimes they don't, which is okay. One tradition that we started about a year ago was making homemade pizza every Friday. I make a dough and they each get a portion of it to roll out themselves and put whatever toppings they want on it. It's fun to do plus it's a lot cheaper then buying pizzas!
My cooking triumphs
I think I will always remember the first time I made homemade spaghetti sauce. My husband and I were newly married(16 years ago) and he has always loved my mom's sauce so I wanted to try to make it for him. I got her recipe from her and made it for him. I was so nervous when we were sitting down to eat but he loved it more then my mom's. Since then I've made it hundreds of times and even my kids love it.
My cooking tragedies
Well, I'm not the best at grilling so I usually leave that up to my husband. One day a friend of mine came over to see our new house and I wanted to make her lunch while she was over. Just a simple lunch of hamburgers, but burgers are so much taster grilled. I decided to give it a try, afterall you just put them on a few minutes, turn them, after a few more minutes take them off. Weeellll, after putting them on we started talking about herbs and I wanted to show her my new herb garden(which was on the other side of the house). After seeing the herbs and yapping for about 20 minutes I remembered the burgers. I ran to them but it was to late. My poor burgers were hockey pucks. My friend said maybe we can just put some herbs on them. We had a good laugh and went out to lunch. Since then I've gotten better at grilling but I still leave it to my husband if I can.

Easy Broccoli Quiche
I don't like mozzarella in my quiche so instead I added half swiss and half cheddar cheese. To give it more flavor I added some chopped ham. With these changes, it's a 5 star.

Spooky Witches Fingers
Happy Halloween everyone! These are a great Halloween treat for a party. There are a lot of people saying these were not very sweet so a added a few spoonfulls extra powdered sugar and a few drops of green food dye for fun. I also used strawberry jelly and a few drop of red food dye instead of the red gel. Either would work, I just had the jelly on hand already. The recipe made 60 "fingers" exacting for me but I guess it would depend in how thick and long you make them. I'm taking them to a Halloween party tonight and I know everyone will love them.

Banana Chip Muffins I
I've made these a few times, the first as wriiten, and they just didn't have the flavor I wanted. I've been playing with this recipe and I have the perfect banana muffins my family loves. 2 cups flour, 1 T. baking powder, 1/2 t. salt, 1/2 cup shortening, 1 cup sugar (1/2 white 1/2 brown), 2 eggs, 1 1/2 cup mashed bananas, 1 t. lemon juice, and 1 cup chocolate chips (or 1 cup nuts). I do the directions the same but I bake at 375 degrees F for 25 minutes.
