About this Cook
Married 31 years. Mother of 3 sons, grammy to two yellow labs.
My favorite things to cook
I love seaonal cooking. No corn on the cob in this house in February! Fresh is best.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Day is extra special for our extended family. My Aunt Polly has been opening her doors to over 50 people for a wonderful gathering for well over 35 years now. Usually 3 huge turkeys are roasted, but sometimes we need 4. Everyone brings a covered dish and a dessert. After we enjoy a huge turkey dinner with all the fixins' we clean up, the Christmas lights are on, and Santa and his elves appear for young and old alike. Everyone gets a gift and tells Santa what they hope to see under the tree. It is so much fun and it's a family tradition that no one ever outgrows!
My cooking triumphs
Any time I actually remember to put all the courses out is a triumph. Whenever I entertain the crowd is very large so it tends to be buffet style. Without fail, I leave something in the fridge, usually a salad or something new I've tried. Even a menu listed on the fridge doesn't guarantee everything will be served!!
My cooking tragedies
Company was on their way over so I started the oven to pop in the main course. After a few minutes there was a terrible smell in the house. I went to the kitchen and opened the oven, thinking a previous spill was burning, and I discovered the biggest orange tupperware bowl I owned, full of popcorn, melting and dripping through the oven rack. It looked like melted cheese! When my guests walked in my husband and I were trying to scrape the plastic off the oven bottom and rack. It was a disaster, but I laugh now.

A-Maize-ing Corn Chowder
Corn chowder is a rather bland meal, but maybe that's why it is so comforting. My additions always include a cup of cheedar cheese and a few dashes of Franks red hot sauce. Serve with more cheese sprinkled on top.
