I was born in Fiji and grew up in Fiji till the age of 15 and then moved to Australia where I spent my of my teenage years and attended university and graduated in Business management. In late 80's I moved to down under New Zealand in search of adventure and travel but instead found a lovely Kiwi (who is still adorable) Barry and I married in 1990 and settled in his home town Hastings (wine capital of New Zealand)Hawkes Bay. I have traveled the world (erupoe, China, South East Asia, Turkey, Korea, Japan, few times over and have tried many many different cultural food and my passion of cooking began in when I settled with Barry. He is a keen food and wine junkie like myself.
My favorite things to cook
I pretty much cook everything but to be more specific, I love cooking creative dishes from an open book, I leave my walk in pantry door open and throw in anything that comes in my site and creat a flavour. According to my friends, they have never tried any of my dishes twice, but I know that I have cooked the same dish for them many times, it comes down to how you can change your cooking by being creative.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love being around my mum, who is also a fantastic cook and between the two of us, we frequently amuze our family with variety of dishes for any occassion. It is always a pleasure to sit and enjoy a cluster of food with our small family and few wines to go with it. Mum and I love making our traditional indian (Fijian) dishes that can be a mixture of indian, chineese, european and anything else that can be called food!!!!
My cooking triumphs
organising a dinner for 50 people at home for my husbands 50th and making sure that each and everyone had a ball. We laid a traditional moari dish called Hangi (food cooked in the ground covered with wet sack and hot rocks placed on top. We cooked a whole pig, lamb, sweet potatoes, normal potatoes, pumpkin halves and much more to feed an army. It was wonderful.
My cooking tragedies
My damn bread maker lets me down all the time. (It must be me!!!!)
