About this Cook
I am married to a great man I have known since junior high and we live with three large adopted dogs. We have one child, now married and living in another state. I enjoy beading and reading - my favorite books being mysteries and manga.
My favorite things to cook
Comfort Foods - but those are now on the back burner - my doctor informed me that salt and sugar are no longer an option for me - so I am busy converting favorite recipes to ones I can still eat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Day - hubby would be deer hunting and daughter and I would get up early to put in the turkey and then back to bed and watch the parades in our jammies until it was time to start the rest of the dinner. Then we would dress up and feast with candles, wine and good food.
My cooking triumphs
I have been cooking since I was 12 because mom worked - my biggest triumph is cooking something from scratch instead of the Hamburger Helper I used to make my family (hey I was only 12!). I also like trying to make something new with only the stuff I have in my cupboard. Which is sometimes also my tragedy heh heh.
My cooking tragedies
Concoctions (stuff I throw together based on what is in my cupboard) that are horrible OR even worse - those that are great that I can't duplicate again!

Skillet Ham and Rice
This was VERY easy to prepare. It is also inexpensive and filling. I changed the reduced sodium chicken broth to ham stock and added pinto beans. I found it tasty and satisfying.
