Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2011
I have been making this for years but never bothered to measure anything. I am so glad to see someone took the time to measure & share the recipe. It's a great way to use up all your stale bread! I do everything the same only I use extra bread and make it in a 9x13" pan (I have a large family). Over the years I have played around with this & sometimes I've added pecans & apples, fresh blueberries, or cran-raisins. I've even swirled strawberry preserves through it. I often bake it with a simple crumb topping on it too. But my kids favorite way to eat it is to add maple syrup over it & they have it for breakfast. Just pour over a generous amount of your favorite maple syrup over the bread pudding right when it comes out of the pan. Let it sit for a few minutes so it soaks down into the bread. YUM! It tastes amazing! My thanks to Ellen for sharing this recipe that I've enjoyed for years with everyone!

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
This was easy to make and tasted good! I doubled the recipe because I have a large family & added sauteed garlic to the gravy for added flavor. It still needed a little extra something so I added 1 chicken bouillon cube and thinned the gravy out with another cup of milk. I used a total of 2-lbs. sausage, 5 cups of milk, 4 cloves of garlic, 1 bouillon cube and only pepper to taste. Don't need the added salt if you use the bouillon. My suggestion, make your flour, butter roue first letting the flour cook for a few minutes before you add the milk (this gets rid of the flour taste)... then proceed to make the gravy, adding the milk slowly. When gravy is done, add the sausage back to the gravy and let simmer for 10-15 minutes till all the flavors meld. I made this with [Fluffy Biscuit] recipe found on here! Sausage Biscuits-n-Gravy is a wonderful comfort food for the whole family! Thanks!

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
This was such a wonderful, easy stuffing recipe that I made for Thanksgiving. It saved space in my oven for other specialty dishes and the flavor came & moistness came out perfect in the slow cooker! This is now my new way of making great stuffing! Thanks!

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2010
I've made this recipe like 5 times already and my whole family LOVES it!!! I've tried a lot of different recipes over the years and this one takes the cake!!! I usually end up doubling the recipe and making a bunch of mini loaves to give to friends & family. I usually make the recipe as is except I add 1 tsp. cinnamon cause I like the flavor. I've also added different things to the batter like; blueberries, raisins, chocolate chips.... they all taste great! This is my permanent recipe for banana bread from now on! Thanks Rose!

Summer Corn Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2010
Made this recipe twice so far and the first time I followed the recipe exactly and the salad was delish! The second time I changed a few things because of personal preference. I added minced garlic cause we love garlic, freshly squeezed juice from 1 lemon instead of the vinegar, 1 can of black beans, 1 can of black olives, 1 finely chopped jalapeno for a little heat and fresh chopped cilantro! It gave it a more southwestern flare and we liked it even better. I served it with tortilla chips! Will definitely add this salad to my favorites! Thanks for the recipe! *Note: make sure you use a good extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor.

Easy Pesto

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
YUM! Loved this recipe cause it's so easy and the almonds are a nice change to the pine nuts which are hard to find & expensive in my small town. The second time I made it I added 1/2 tsp. cumin instead of nutmeg & the squeeze of one fresh lemon! I liked it even more this way!!!! (Note- be sure to use a good extra virgin olive oil for a better flavor). Thanks Rebecca!

Dad's Simple Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
This is pretty good for a quick marinade using ingredients that most of us probably have on hand. The only changes I made was to use olive oil instead of vegatable oil. Also added fresh lemon juice from 1 lemon. This is a good base for a marinade... but add some spices for a little bolder flavor like basil, oregano, salt & pepper, and a little cumin! Perfection!

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2010
Very easy to make and the flavor is amazing. I even messed it up by forgetting to let it rise a 2nd time and it still turned out great! My family loved it and requested more. This time I won't forget to let it rise a 2nd time and I'm sure it will turn out perfect. Only thing I did different was make it by hand...not with a bread machine. Oh and I did add 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese to the recipe. Before baking I brushed it with garlic infused olive oil and sprinkled it with a little bit of cracked black pepper. This recipe is the bomb!!! =)

Blueberry Pound Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
This was a delicious, easy cake to make. It turned out fairly moist but would have been moister had I not dredged the blueberries in extra flour. Next time I'll skip that step & just add the blueberries as is. I used fresh blueberries and almond extract cause I didn't have vanilla. And I also used buttermilk instead of plain old milk. It turned out great and I think I actually prefer the almond extract flavoring. I added a simple powdered sugar glaze of the warm cake and everyone thought it was delicious. Makes a nice cake presentation for a brunch. Definitely a keeper! Thanks!

Easy Lemon-Blueberry Jam

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
I was a little nervous using lemon jello but to my surprise it turned out PERFECT! The taste was very good with only a subtle hint of lemon and plenty of blueberry flavor! The consistency was perfect too and it set up nicely...not runny at all. This is definitely a keeper and I didn't change a thing. Thanks for the recipe!

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
Loved this recipe! This recipe made 4 mini loaves and 1 regular size loaf for me. The only thing I did different was add 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar and it turned out GREAT! It was sweet, moist and delicious... and everyone ate it up! UPDATE: I added a struessel topping before baking and it made it even more delicious! (1/2 cup flour, 1/2 oat meal, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, 2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 6 tbsp. butter. Mix all together and sprinkle on top of bread batter before baking).

A-Number-1 Banana Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
I'm not much of a banana lover but this cake was wonderful! I followed the recipe to the T and it turned out GREAT! Very moist and held together nicely. I baked it in a bundt pan and I did pour a little powdered sugar glaze over the top and added some chopped walnuts on top. It presented nicely & tasted fabulous! This recipe is definitely a keeper!!! Thanks! (see pic I uploaded of this cake) ***Update- I'm still making this fabulous cake but just wanted to share that I made it with 2/3 cup strong coffee in place of the buttermilk (only because I had no milk, cream or anything in the house). It turned out wonderful & was a little lighter in texture. Very good! Love this recipe!

Best Peanut Butter Cookies Ever

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
I was a bit skeptical about making these cookies because of all the sugar and no flour. But I was wrong! These cookies were delicious! The only change I made was 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar. I also used Jif peanut butter (1/2 crunchy & 1/2 creamy). They tasted amazing, reminded me of the big yummy peanut butter cookies we got at school. The only complaint I have is that this recipe doesn't make enough for my large family (It made about 2 dozen big cookies for me). I had to make a second batch and the 2nd time I added peanut butter chips and they turned out wonderful. This is a great recipe. Definitely a keeper, one that I will make often! Thanks!

Lemon Sugar Tea Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2009
Love this recipe! The cookies came out thin and chewy with a subtle lemony flavor. I followed the basic recipe with only a few exceptions. I added 1 teaspoon of lemon zest & a squeeze from 1/2 a lemon to the batter. I omitted rolling them in sugar before baking. After the cookies baked & cooled I frosted them with powdered sugar frosting. [1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tsp. lemon extract, 1 drop of red food coloring(to make pink), & 1 tblsp. milk. These cookies would be delicious even without the frosting and just rolled in sugar like the recipe states. They had the pleasant taste of lemonade! Great for a tea party! Thanks...this one is a keeper!

Pumpkin Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
This cake was so easy to make and it turned out fabulous! Very moist with a smooth pumpkin pie/spice cake flavor. The cake is not lite & fluffy...it's a little heavy but very good. I drizzled cream cheese glaze over the warm cake and it enhanced the flavors even more. Tasted a lot like a pumpkin roll without all the fuss. Definitely a keeper! I think I will add fresh cranberries to the batter & sprinkle the baked top of cake with chopped pecans when I make this for Christmas just to make it a little more special. [basic cream cheese glaze- 4-oz. cream cheese-softened, 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon butter-softened, 1 tsp vanilla extract, mix till there are no lumps and add enough milk to make it a glaze constancy about 2 Tblsp.]

Apple Crumb Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
Excellent pie! I made it for our Thanksgiving dinner and someone else brought a Baker's Square pie and mine was gone in minutes and nobody touched the professionally made pie. I didn't add any raisins or nuts just extra apples. I used granny smith and Macintosh apples. I also chopped up a handful of pecans to mix into the crumb topping. When the pie came out of the oven I drizzled just a little caramel syrup (ice cream topping) over the crumb topping. The pie was out of this world! I will never use another apple pie recipe again...this one is a keeper!

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
I decided to give this recipe a whirl. I was a little afraid because I've never made pecan pie without corn syrup before and pecan pie is my favorite! Well let me tell you I will NEVER go back to corn syrup pies again. This recipe was absolutely amazing!!! I made it yesterday for our Thanksgiving dinner. I couldn't wait till Thursday so I sliced a small piece to taste and it was sooo delicious. Not sickening sweet, just sweet enough with a nice buttery flavor as well. I did add a handful more pecans because I love them so much and placed some whole ones on top. But other than that I didn't change a thing. This is now my new pecan pie recipe! Thank you so much! I will probably have to make another one because I don't think this one will last till Thursday's dinner. lol.
