About this Cook
My mother had to go back to work when I was 14, so it became my responsibilty to cook for our large family of 8. I am now a mother of three boys and the kitchen is our family room.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake with the kids. I also enjoy making Indian cuisine, homemade things that most people buy in jars and boxes like; granola bars, salad dressings, stuffing and chicken nuggets. I prefer the healthy but flavorful versions made from scratch. I'm a southern girl so I love to make fried fish and chicken, collard greens and pecan pies. Macaroni and cheeses and sweet potato casserole are two dishes I am known for. Also I have three children so anything I make that's cooked in one pot.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Green eggs and ham for Easter brunch. Homemade stuffing for the holidays. Homemade biscuits and chocolate gravy for Christmas breakfast.

Slow Cooker Orange Chicken
I was looking for a slow cooker orange chicken so decided to give this one a try inspite of the bad reviews. I made quite a few changes and it turned out wonderful (which is why the 4 stars). this is what I did: 1st, I seasoned the chicken with s&p, garlic powder and dusted in flour then deep fried till golden brown. Then I put drained chicken in crockpot with other ingred + 2 heaping Tablespoons of orangejuice concentrate and 1/2 cup of honey. When the meal was finished I placed the chicken under the broiler until a bit crispy then dusted in toasted sesame seeds. It turned out delish this way!!!

Maharaja Curry
outstanding dish. Simple to make and tastes like it took alot of effort. The only thing different I did was to add already grilled and diced chicken that I keep in my freezer for quick fixes. I also will not use the cayenne pepper next time (as it is NOT kid friendly)only a small pinch at most.

Shepherd's Pie VI
Great and easy recipe. I followed the advice of other reviews and added the worcestershire sauce. I also added 3 cloves of garlic and used a cup of left over brown gravy instead of broth and flour. I did not mash, rather diced my carrots for texture reasons. I also used onion powder since my husband does not like onion.
