I'm a wife, mother, and "keeper" of the home. I was raised to have good habits with what I ate, but I am basically self-taught when it comes to my kitchen skills. Though I normally made healthy stuff in general, having kids inspired me to go out of my comfort zone and expand my skills/experience.
My favorite things to cook
Almost anything when it's something hubby and I are doing together. Otherwise, in general I can't help but feel more comfortable with stuff I've been making for a while and have a good grip on. Lately I've been getting ideas from the cookbook Deceptively Delicious and have been happy to see things I used to always make come out tasty just as good or even better and not to mention with a boost of vegis.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't recall many traditions, but overall we had healthy and whole grains/foods.
My cooking triumphs
Probably a six pound leg of lamb. I could not believe how I got it to turn out better than it even sounded, and this was after being married only three months. (I was a no-cooking, no-cleaning tombody growing up, so I really didn't know how to do much in the kitchen until being married inspired me.) And note to self about lamb: eat hot (very good), not warm, and NEVER cool! Lamb residue was stuck on my palet for days!
Another one of my personal triumphs is my secret pancake recipe. I sort of made it myself, and the trick isn't so much in the ingredients but in the way it's cooked. Maybe one day I'll share.
My cooking tragedies
Hmmm, so many. I guess it's the way learning goes, but I've definitely come a long way though. Maybe the time I'm thinking of isn't so much what I was trying to make, but for me it was a heartbreaker. On my husband's first birthday since being married, I dropped his special-requested cake on the kitchen floor. :( (tear)
