Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
AMAZING!!! One reviewer remarked that this recipe has alot of "wiggle room"...perfectly put. My amendments were: ground pork in place of sausage, used up the left over spaghetti sauce, added mushrooms, pinto beans, sweet red peppers, diced onions, and whole wheat pasta. We added a sprinkle of parmesan for garnish. We are huge soup fans and will be eating this ALOT. Over 20,000 people have saved this recipe to their recipe box...ALL of them will be glad they did!!!

Baking Powder Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
These are AWESOME!!! Quick, easy, moist. I made them according to recipe, but think butter flavored shortening would be nice, too. The flavor is delicate and pairs well with just about anything---pasta, chicken, soup. We had ours as an accompaniament to spaghetti and sauce and salad. I made them very large and popped them into the oven right before I poured the pasta into the boiling water. Just as I finished draining the pasta they were ready to come out of the oven. They are yumm-o with honey, a dollop of butter, jam. Wouldn't these be a nice treat for your family at breakfast, paired with eggs, bacon and hot tea?!??!

Fried Onion Rings

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2009
I have tried many onion ring recipes on this site and this is by far the best and the easiest! I subbed seltzer for beer. Also added onion and garlic powders as well as paprika to the batter. I cut the slices fairly thick and dredged them in plain flour first to help the batter stick to the onions...worked like a charm. I fried them in safflower oil in my cast iron fry pan. I kept them hot in a slow oven while I made enough for everyone. We had these with cola burgers and slaw. Fabulous with a squeeze of ketchup! Needless to say it was a tremendous hit! Will be sticking to this recipe! Thank you sooooo much!

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
These were soooo good! Extremely easy,as well. I do recommend cutting the salt back. I used boneless chops as they were on sale. I cooked my chops 3 minutes on each side, and simmered them 30 minutes instead of 45. I thickened the sauce with cornstarch and added onion and garlic powders, as well as more sage and black pepper. Wonderful served with rice, egg noodles or garlic potatoes. This was a huge hit with the family and will be added to our regular line up of quick family meals.

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2009
This is one of the best recipes I have ever made on allrecipes!!! Absolutely scrumptious and incredibly easy! I too, left out the flour and simply browned the breast. I used bone-in chicken as it was on sale. After pulling out the chicken to thicken the sauce, I used a fork to pull the chicken meat from the bone. I then added the meat back into the thickened sauce. The other alteration was that I used red wine vinegar, owing to not having balsamic. The meat was juicy and tender, which made me so happy- despite all the yummy things I cook, my chicken has a habit of being like shoe leather, and horribly dry. But not anymore!!! The flavor was lovely. The husband and kids LOVED it~~~ Everyone ate 2 bowls, and are asking me to make it again very soon. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for this fabulous recipe!!! We've a new family favorite!

Extra Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
Wow!!! Beyond easy and so yummy!!! I also added a quick squeeze of lime and some paprika and just the smallest drizzle of honey. I have made this several times now and it's just as enjoyable the last time as it was the first. My husband loves this. In fact, I'm making some tonite! Thanks for this great recipe!

Dad's Hamburger Gravy

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I think I have done just about everything there is one can do with ground beef, but one evening it occured to me that I had NEVER made hamburger gravy, one of my most favorite childhood foods. Funny thing is, it was always my dad who made it! This was a very yummy recipe, taking me back to my youth. One that I will make again and again!

Acorn Squash Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
Absolutely fabulous!!! My husband and I have been following a food combining diet as of late, and I have been looking for different veggie soups, casseroles and the like. This one really exceeded all of my expectations. I used frozen squash for convenience sake, and added cooked potato chunks and corn. I also added a touch of allspice. Loaded with beta carotene, this is a real easy soup to make and a delight to eat! A treasure!

Eggplant -- Easy, Good and Tasty

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
As is, this recipe is really good! I made a few changes for a little extra flavor. I added paremsan to the bread crumb mixture, as well as garlic and onion powders, paprika, and ground red pepper. While the (peeled) eggplant was baking in the oven, I made a nice tomato sauce with lots of garlic. I had a bit of bread crumb left over, so I threw it in the sauce. Instead of broiling, I turned the heat in the oven to 425 for about 7 extra minutes. These were fabulous with pasta and sauce and WONDERFUL as a "burger" on a bun, with a slice of provolone and a ladle of tomato sauce. I made up extra, wrapped them (2 in each package) in plastic and froze them for delicious healthy meals in a hurry. This is my favorite eggplant recipe...kudos to the submitter! We love it!

Banana Banana Bread

This is the one and only banana bread for us. I've made a ton of different recipes, looking for that, sweet, rich banana flavor- THIS is it! And soooo moist and dense....I'm glad there's some in the oven right now!

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
THIS is my only biscuit recipe now! Tall and fluffy and delicious. No more biscuits from the store for us! These are foolproof and quick. Great with soups and fried in my cast iron for morning coffee. I brought a heaping basket of these warm from the oven, on a tray with homemade jams and jellies, cheeses, fruit and chocolates for guests...they are still talking about it! These bicuits will make a great impression.

Gypsy Soup

This was very good. The seasoning blend is the perfect accompaniament to the sweet potoatoes. I gave this 5 stars b/c it is a great soup, but I still prefer the healing cabbage soup recipe, as I'm crazy for cabbage.

Hasty Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2009
Heavenly days! This is sooooo good! So homemade, so easy, so quick! This is a great recipe if you're looking for something healthy to feed a sweet tooth. I used sugar, but will be trying it with Splenda next time round. I found that cooking it the full amount of time makes it very thick, which will be perfect poured into a prebaked shell with layers of ice cream, chocolate wafer crumbles, and chocolate syrup for husbands birthday in a few days! I liked this so much I printed it to add to my binder of faves! Thanks for sharing this gem!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

is is reaaly yummy...way better than regualr meatloaf! I have made three times now! Some alterations...I make mine by mixing the brown sugar and ketchup right into the meat, using oats instead of crackers, and bake it in my cast iron fry pan. So quick and easy to throw togther...it cooks itself while I write my term papers!

Healing Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
i just don't get it!!! How can it be that a handful of simple ingredients can make something so absolutely fabulous?!!? My husband and I looove soup and I am always on the lookout for a new recipe. This exceeded all of my expectations. My alterations include adding chopped zucchini and summer squash. I also added extra garlic, a touch of Splenda, and used diced canned tomatoes instead of stewed. I added my own italian seasonings, and garnished with a touch of parmesan cheese. I cooked it all day in the crock pot on low and the house was filled with the most wonderful smell. This would be great with the addition of browned ground chicken or turkey, as well as rice or pasta. We are both hooked on this soup and will eating constantly! Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe! You rock!!!

Pasta Cheeseburger Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
This is an easy kid-friendly recipe. I've been searching for recipes that my 2 kids can cook, that will expand their culinary horizons beyond chicken patties from the freezer. This is a great start. A couple of alterations for us... left out the relish and mustard/ketchup garnish. We added italian seasonings, and used whole wheat pasta (mini-ruffles shape) and homemade pasta sauce in place of the tomato soup. Used finely shredded cheddar cheese in place of cheese soup. We garnished with a a sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan cheese. I guess we kind of ended up with a homespun version of hamburger helper. Our changes made for a healthier option, but kept the recipe quick and easy. Both of my picky eaters loved it. Now if we could just move them on to veggies....

Best Ever Banana Bread

The name says it all!!! This is the very best banana bread I have EVER eaten. Dense, moist, not too sweet and saturated with banana goodness. My only change to the recipe was that I left the nuts out. This is the only banana bread recipe I will ever need or use again!

Boston Iced Tea

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
I was looking for a flavored tea to make in place of the delicious yet pricey bottled tea that we love so much. This is absolutely delicious---5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!! Super easy to make, and better with time. Other reviewers nailed it when they said it was sweeter and even yummier the next day. I used cranberry concentrate, which was scrumptious, and I look forward to trying different flavor twists, such as raspberry lemonade and even a hard version with rum. This recipe is a keeper...thank you so much for sharing it with us!

Rich and Creamy Roasted Eggplant Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
Wonderful, just wonderful! Looks elegant, is easy to make, and has only a handful of readily available ingredients. It is perfect for fall! I made a few modifications to further simplfy the recipe... I roasted large peeled chunks of eggplant and onions, and garlic. After they were soft and brown, they were tossed into the slow cooker with a can of crushed tomatoes, seasonings, and a touch of sweetener (I use agave syrup). After cooking overnight on lowest heat, I pureed them with my immersion blender and added a bit of half & half. I tweaked the seasonings a bit and served it with Jo's Rosemary Bread (from this site) and a salad. A delicious and easy meal, gauranteed to satisfy!
