My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
This recipe was really good. The only change I made was that I didn't add all of the butter. I used a little olive oil instead and it was still good. thanks.

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
Ok, Jo....this has got to be the BEST bread! I've been baking a lot since i got my new bread machine and we really enjoyed this recipe. Even though I made some changes, I know it would still be 5 stars if I didn't make them. I used milk instead of water. Brushed the top w/olive oil. I made the dough in the machine but formed and finished it off in my oven for 30 mins @ 375. I also did half white/half wheat flour and it still turned out perfect. Thanks for a fantastic recipe!!!!

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
I made this tonight and it was so easy. I took the advice of others and added a little nutmeg and cinnamon. I was out of sour cream so I used plain yogurt. I also used dried blueberries since I didn't have fresh. Came out like a pro.

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
Well my 8 yr old made this quiche tonight...with my assistance. We sauteed fresh spinach in olive oil and onions. Used cheddar cheese instead of muenster. Added a touch of nutmeg and garlic powder. Oh and I put about 3 TBLS of half & half. Turned out wonderful!!!

Tzatziki Sauce (Yogurt and Cucumber Dip)

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
I made this to accompany my gyros tonight and it was really good. I omitted the mint and added about a tsp of minced onion. I also added about a 1/2 tbls. of sugar to cut the tang of the yogurt. Will make again!

Peppy's Pita Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
This made a very nice dough. I didn't change anything except I made them on the stove top instead of in the oven. I used just a little coconut oil in the pan.....maybe 1/2 tsp for each pita. I made gyros with them and they were delicious.

Potato Leek Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
This recipe was simple and very delicious. The things I changed: I added half and half and a little 2% milk. I added a little garlic powder too. Instead of the white wine, I splashed it with some red wine vinegar. I also used vegetable broth instead of chicken. Huge hit. Will def make again.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2007
With almost 1200 reviews, I figured I would try it. Made pizza last night with my 8yr old and it came out great. I brushed the crust with a little butter after baking and it kept it chewy and nice. Only alteration to the recipe is that i subbed 1/3 of the white flour with wheat and added about 2 TBL of 10-grain cereal (milled, of course) for extra fiber. Oh and I also coated the pan w/olive oil and sprinkled w/ just a little corn meal. Will def make again.

Cream of Mushroom Soup I

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
This was a very simple, tasty recipe. I sauteed the mushrooms, onions, and thyme then added vegetable stock instead of chicken broth. The only suggestion I have is to add the salt to taste at the very end. Other than that, I can't believe how easy this was. I'll definitely make this again and freeze for winter. I'll also try to use it as a sauce for pasta. Yum.....

Bread in a Bag

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
I made this recipes last night w/my 8 yr old daughter. She had so much fun 'squishing' the bag. It was INCREDIBLY easy...especially considering that I am not the best baker. Definitely worth it! Thanks.

Lori's Famous Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2007
I made these crab cakes today as an appetizer for my Sunday dinner. I did a "test" cake before I did the rest and it it held together fine. I used a whole egg instead of just the eggwhite. I also omitted the peppers since I didn't have any. Instead, I put a little oil, celery, green onions, onions, old bay, and lemon juice in the food processor....then used it as a 'seasoning' for the crab. I then folded in the rest of the ingredients. Had a really nice flavor. My next batch will have one more egg and I'll make the patty just a tad bit thicker. Wonderful flavor!

Crab Cake Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2007
Well, I was really excited about this sauce but was a little disappointed. It has a semi-nice flavor but I think just half the amount of yogurt will do. It was very thin. I tried to thicken it up with some heavy whipping cream but it didn't really work....however it DID cut the strong taste of the yogurt. I added some Old Bay seasoning, a little garlic & onion powder to 'pep' it up a little. We still enjoyed it but will try to alter it next time.....i think it would have been 5 stars if I could've thickened it up just a tad.....Still recommended. **I'm adding this note a few days later to change my rating to 5 stars. It seems as though the sauce thickened up in the fridge...(maybe because I whipped in heavy cream?) but I also added a little roasted red pepper vinagrette and it is such a versatile sauce. It makes a lot. this morning i made homemade hash browns..put an over-medium egg on top and finished it with the sauce on top of that. Mmmmmmm........

Supreme Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2007
Like a few of the other reviewers, I thought this was just ok....but not ok enough to serve with the rest of my Sunday dinner. However, I did salvage it with the following. I used my immersion blender, added more milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder and made it into a potato soup. After blending I added diced ham and I had homemade ham, cheese, and potato soup. It was MUCH better that way. I still want to find a good scalloped potatoes recipe though. This one was just too runny...perfect for my soup though.

Indian Naan II

This recipe was very easy and delicous. I used instant yeast since it doesn't need proofing and it made it EXTRA easy. The yogurt made the bread very soft and nice. Got several compliments. I've used it for breakfast....quesadillas....gyros....and for wraps. They're so versatile!!!

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2007
Although the pretzels didn't taste like the mall's pretzels, they were easy and fun to make with my 7 yr old. I found the dough was easy to work with by hand. I was curious as to what exactly the baking soda solution was for so i left one pretzel "undipped".....and that 1 did not turn brown like the others. It was white....but still tasty. I would make these again...but there's just something missing....can't put my finger on it!!!

I had to give this rub its props....after all, it got rave reviews from my family. I rubbed it on some babyback ribs and baked them in the oven for 2 hours. My brother said they were better than restaurant ribs!!!

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2007
I've been looking for a good tiramisu cake recipe for a couple years and finally found it. I had to manipulate a couple of the steps because I only had a bundt pan but all of my guests LOVED it. I will definitely be making this cake again!
