About this Cook
I used to dust my stove for years but now, thanks to cooking courses at our local Loblaws (grocery store) and this website, I've taken up an interest in cooking. I usually make something I've never tried before when we have company, which I never had the nerve to do before, but life's too short to always cook the same thing. I love cooking when I have the time - I'll love it more when I retire for that reason! - and I love eating too so I have to balance healthy eating with treats. There's something really fulfilling about cooking for people who love what they're eating.
My favorite things to cook
I love making soups. They're a great healthy dinner in our cold Canadian winter. I also enjoy making and eating anything with lemon in it and occasional treats like cinnamon buns and homemade dinner rolls (from this website).
My favorite family cooking traditions
None really - that's why I used to dust my stove. My mother hated cooking, she just liked to collect cookbooks.
My cooking triumphs
I made a spectacular Christmas log cake a few years ago. And this year I made the penguin olive appetizers from this website which were a great hit.
My cooking tragedies
I never used to get creative enough to have tragedies and now that I'm cooking I use recipes from this website and from my favourite cookbooks (Ina Garten - Barefoot Contessa) so the recipes are so good it's hard to have a tragedy.

Pie Crust IV
I've been using a different recipe for pie crust - UNTIL NOW! This one is perfection and I wouldn't look any further. Thank you!

Kielbasa Appetizers
I thought these were going to be delicious, based on the recipe, so I think the problem might have been due to the BBQ sauce I used - Diana's Original - because my husband and I both found these overpoweringly sweet. Maybe if I had reduced the amount of brown sugar they might have been OK. As it was, I kept adding vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, red pepper flakes and a couple of other things to try to get rid of the sweetness. It worked, but just barely.

Honey Baked Chicken II
I love it when I find a recipe that's this simple but tastes fantastic. I used skinless, boneless chicken thighs instead of a whole cut-up chicken. Didn't change anything else, other than to cover it with foil for first bit as suggested by someone else. This will become a regular in our kitchen. Thanks so much for a great recipe!
