Glazed Meatloaf II

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
If you (or anyone in your family) hate "meatloaf night", this recipe will change your mind! The glaze is delicious and the meatloaf itself is very moist and full of flavour. Add a bit of garlic if it suits you, but really, the recipe is great just as is.

Irresistible Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I'm an avid baker but this was the first time I had ever made a pecan pie. I eliminated the pecan in the filling because I thought it would be too much and the pie turned out wonderful. Everyone raved about it and couldn't believe I had never made one before. My husband, who is from the south, said it was definitely up there with the best pecan pie he'd ever eaten - and as an avid chef himself, he does not give compliments like that often! Excellent recipe

Home Style Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
This is a classic, creamy and rich mac & cheese. True comfort food at it's best. If you're a purist (like me) when it comes to mac & cheese, and you LOVE a creamy, cheesy texture than this is the recipe you want to try. Excellent recipe!

Soft, Moist and Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
These were good...in fact, everyone loved them....except me. I would like a little more cinnamon taste and maybe more filling. I will definitely make these again but I think I'll try adding a dash of cinnamon into the bread mixture and maybe double the filling. A great, soft and gooey bun and really worth trying!

Apple Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
This was absolutely delicious. Moist and light, a perfect coffee cake. I did use 2 large apples instead of one and I used brown sugar in the topping and added enough butter to make it a struesel.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
OH MY...these are delightful brownies! We didn't find them too sweet at all..but I chose not to frost them. They are moist without being gooey, and stay together nicely without being too cakey. Really a perfect brownie. I would definitely recommend them and will be using this as my "go-to" recipe for quick and easy basic brownies from now on!

Steakhouse Wheat Bread for the Bread Machine

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
This bread is absolutely delicious! I certainly did not have any problems with the recipe; I've made this numerous times now and it turns out fabulous every time. This is by far the most requested recipe in my household. I used fancy molasses instead of honey (I was out...) the last time I made this and it was even better!! Try it sometime - you won't be disappointed!

Snickerdoodles II

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2009
Beware of these cookies - they disappear fast!! I made these as a treat for my husband; snickerdoodles are his favorite but not a cookie I've made often. I should start by saying I am an avid baker and my various cookies are requested often by friends and family. Since I didn't have a "go-to" recipe for snickerdoodles, I decided to search here and settled on this one after reading the positive reviews. I did make some modifications: I needed to use up some butter-flavor shortening so I subbed that for the regular shortening, I took the advice of one reviewer, who like me prefers soft cookies, and eliminated the cream of tartar completely. I did only make half a batch since it was just my husband and I. Well, let me say this - the first dozen was completely gone before the second batch was even out of the oven!! These are soft with a slight crunch to the edge, not too sweet, delicious for dunking in coffee/tea; really the perfect grown-up cookie and the kids will like them too! As far as some of the complaints/concerns regarding this recipe go let me make these suggestions: 1. ALWAYS use light colored cookie sheets - I like the "air-bake". They will always give you great results for evenly baked cookies, no more burnt bottoms! 2. 400F is WAY to high a temp for cookies; reduce to 375F and bake these for about 8-9 minutes for perfect results. 3. Do not let the cookies sit on the cookie sheet for more than a minute, cool them on a wire rack - if they last that long!

My Mother-in-Law's Cheese Sauce...ssshh Don't Tell Her

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2009
I was looking for a cheese sauce recipe because it's the only way my husband will eat broccoli but it's my children's favorite veggie (go figure!). I came across this one and was quite pleased with the result - although I did modify a bit. First, I used 8 oz of cheddar cheese because we don't typically have processed cheese in the house. I also used flour instead of cornstarch because I didn't have any left - in doing this I used a lot more water, probably about 6-1 but I didn't measure :); and I added about a teaspoon of salt. The sauce was rich, creamy , cheesy and delicious over the broccoli and the roasted potatoes I had made too! My children wouldn't poor the sauce on their precious broccoli, but they did dip some bread in it and both said it was tasty.

Rich Chocolate Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2009
WOW! These are impressive. I've long been looking for a homemade brownie recipe that was as rich and moist as store bought...and this recipe is as close as it gets! I'm not usually a fan of icing on brownies, but these ones need it - they'd be a little too dry for my liking without. A great recipe though and I'll definitely use this one again.

Spinach Cheese Manicotti

This is absolutely delicious! The whole family loved this dish. I made the recipe just as it's listed - well, I "eyeballed", rather than measured some ingredients, but it was pretty close. If you are looking for something classy and elegant to serve to guests, or just something special for a family dinner - this is the perfect pasta dish!

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
This is a very good base recipe. I made a batch this morning and the only complaint was 'not enough filling'. I left out the nuts because that simply doesn't appeal to me and I wish I had at least doubled - or tripled - the cinnamon-sugar filling for a more 'cinnabon' type roll. I think I will also use brown sugar next time. That being said - the rolls are wonderfully soft and sweet and the icing is perfect. I would highly recommend this recipe, just be prepared to make modifications for your personal taste.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
Absolutely Amazing!! OK, I bake all the time and this is by far one of my favorite recipes. I've made this recipe twice and my fiance can't get enough of it. I think next time I'll make 2 at a time because we can almost finish off the pie in one sitting - it is THAT good! The only change I made was to poor the syrup over the apples before putting the top crust on, and we prefer a full crust to the lattice. This recipe is perfect! You gotta try it - you won't be disappointed.
