I'm a busy, thirty something Wife and Mom. Sometimes I love to cook - and sometimes not as much. My three guys( ranging from 10 - 16 ) are super picky and it is not such a joy to cook for them sometimes ( although they LOVE when I bake! ). I love trying new recipes, and I also love decorating, gardening, and spending time with my family.
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake - but I have to be in the baking zone. It looks like a bakery at my house during the holidays. Moderation? I think not! I enjoying cooking Italian dishes and Vegeterian dishes the most. I try to find new ways to eat veggies because my husband isn't a huge vegetable fan.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hmmm..... from my Grandmother, I learned to make homemade cinnamon rolls ( an all day ordeal ) and snickerdoodles. We would have a baking day when I went to see her. We made bread from scratch too - the old fashioned way.... no bread machines for us. Fruit Salad and deviled eggs are a most have for All holiday gatherings! Something my Mother passed on to me :0).
My cooking triumphs
Cooking Fish! I never used to eat or cook fish. I didn't want to make my husband sick if I didn't cook it correctly. I think I was a little intimadated by it too. Well.... not only do I cook it, quite well I might add, I eat it too. It's too good for you to not eat! I have cooked all types of fish and used many recipes. Fish became a part of my menu plans about a year and a half ago.
My cooking tragedies
Oh my!!! Years ago, about 14 I guess, I was just starting to dabble in cooking once in a blue moon. I decided to make pizza. I didn't have any tomato sauce, nor money, but I did have a can of spaghetti o's. It came to me! I strained the noodles out of the sauce, and wa - la! Pizza Sauce! My hubby came home ( I was soooo proud! ), and I cut him a slice. " What is this? It tastes like spaghetti o's! ". Oh my! Not good! I tried to give my dog a little taste - he declined. That was my big tragedy. Another time I tried to make a dish called Three Bean Terrein. A lot of work! It looked so beautiful in the book. Different layers of pureed beans, all the colors... baked into a bean loaf. Wow! What a mess!
