Basil Tomato Soup

FANTASTIC. I was scared to put 18 basil leaves into this soup but the basil makes it. The more basil the better. Absolutely fabulous. Added a bit of sugar to contrast the tangyness of the tomatoes.

Broccoli Rice Casserole

OHMYGOSH I should have changed the serving amount. I made this for my boyfriend, my room mate, and myself but didn't change the serving amount. Ended up with A. LOT. of leftovers. Also, I will be adding more broccoli next time.

Cheesiest Potato Soup

Very good! I made this for an autumn party and it fit the bill. Next time I may have a side bar with different soup "accessories". the soup tasted good but I felt it needed some bacon bits or chives or SOMETHING else.

Baked Stuffed Tomatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
I used ground turkey (cooked with water and a beef bouillon, among the other ingredients) to make this dish a bit healthier. Also used cheesy instant rice and added shredded mozz and parm cheese to the inside of the tom and to the top of the stuffing. With the left over filling I mixed in a bit of taco seasoning, cumin, and some pepper to add a mexican flavor, and used bell peppers as the shell. GREAT recipe! Will use again and again and...

Delicious as is! I eat this over vanilla bean ice cream. I also didn't have cardamom -- but it still tasted great.

Slow Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
Changes I made: I subbed cornstarch with flour, minced garlic for garlic powder, and subbed miled rotel for canned tomatoes. Bought the stir-fry steak at the store and sliced the meat up a bit more. Boyfriend, room mate, friend, coworkers, and I all LOVED this dish. Coworkers asked for the recipe! Will DEFINITELY make this again!

Easy, awesome, a favorite among women. I added mini marshmellows towards the end, right before dropping them onto the wax paper. This way the mellows are still pretty whole. Took these to a womens Bible study -- EVERYONE asked for the recipe.

Glazed Apple Cream Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
I made practically all of this pie from scratch: the pie shell recipe from this site (I used pie shell IV), homemade heavy cream, had to use flour instead of cornstarch, and home-grown apples from the apple tree. I used Black Apples and they were great to bake with. I think I should have used store-bought heavy cream and real cornstarch bc I don't think my home-made ingredients created the type of consistancy in the custard that it was supposed to have. Nevertheless it was still a good pie. I might try it again.

Pasta Isabarte

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
This recipe is fantastic! I totally forgot the olives and that makes me sad but even the odd combo of egg and bell pepper is great. I kind of like the bell pepper on the side rather than eating it w/ the pasta, so next time I'll grill the bell pepper with a little garlic, cheese, and tomato sauce, that way it can be a side dish. The egg is good -- not all that noticeable. I wonder if mixing the egg in with the sauce rather than hardboiling it will have the same effect w/o the white chunks? Over all this is a keeper!

Easy Key Lime Pie I

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
With the suggested reviewer changes (2 cans Milk, 1 cup juice, 4 egg yolks) this recipe is perfect. It took me almost an hour to bake this but that has to do with my oven. Even so it came out perfectly: I had enough to fill one pre-made pie shell plus 4 mini pie shells.

[[UPDATE 4/08 - i tried this recipe with doritos and regular breadcrumbs. i liked that much better, and dipped in mustard. i think the doritos would be good with shredded cheddar melted on top.]] i used sour cream and onion chips, and the breading became soggy and fell off. i think it may have been my technique so i'm going to try this again.

my cake wasn't nearly as pretty as some posted pictures. also, i think next time i'll double the recipe. the cake seemed so flat and thin. this is very good with whipped cream -- we ate it chilled, i'll try it a bit warmed up as well. great crust!

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2008
i'm a meat eater but i've always loved veggie burgers. finally i got around to trying to make them at home and i used this recipe with minor changes: i used 2 cans of beans, 1 cup of bread crumbs, 2 whole eggs, some celery, and less of the spices [omitted the hot sauce, and used 2 t. of the other two; i used super spicy chili powder and it was caliente as is!]. to add to the final product, and to compliment the spicyness of the burgers, i whipped up an avocado-ranch spread [mashed a half of an avocado, mixed in about a T. of ranch and 1/2 t. of sour cream]. with a slice of provolone, the avo-ranch spread, and a wheat bun, these are SUPERB! i suprised my veggie-burger-skeptic of a mom with these and we're both hooked! thanks for the recipe!!

Garlic Broccoli

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2008
I wasn't impressed with this recipe. I used balsamic vinagrette, and swaped the vinegar and oil measurments -- I just didn't like the taste. I think there was just TOO MUCH sauce. I like the taste of broccoli and when I used the sauce I couldn't taste anything but balsamic garlic onion. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll cut all the amounts in half.

Italian Peas

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2008
Great side dish. I made the basic changes too : i only had canned peas so i used those, cut back on onion and garlic, swapped chicken broth for a chicken bouillon and water, and completely forgot the s&p but turns out it didn't need it. the only other way i knew of to prepare peas was to make a cheesy sauce and this was not only healthier but also tastier!

Cheddar Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
EDIT: i used a tablespoon of butter to butter the dish and a tablespoon over the top of 3 peices of chicken. this was perfect for us. very satisfying; way better than "Best Chicken Ever" from this site and basic enough to replace it. i replaced the cereal with 1/2 c. more Italian breadcrumbs and 1/2 c. plain breadcrumbs. i also added about a t. more garlic powder than called for. next time i will use less butter -- i don't think it needs that much! i paired the chicken with simple green beans and some left over brown rice. good stuff!

Artichoke Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2008
[[UPDATE: I tried this recipe AS IS and I didn't care for it as much as without mozz, bread crumbs, and tomatoes. Also it left me craving more artichokes. This is only a 5 star for me with some changes. Sorry :( ]] YUM! I used half parm/half mozz, sprinkled w/ italian bread crumbs the last 5 minutes, and topped everything with chopped sun-dried tomatoes. SO so so good!
